    343 vs 409 winterization

    I'm stealing this off another thread but decided I would ask it here because there's probably a fair amount of interest.

    I'm pretty sure I know the basics of winterizing a 343 as it can't be much different than the GT-40. Basically, you need to drain 2 fittings off the block, 2 fittings on the manifolds, drain the tranny cooler, the raw water pump, and then any heater or shower. Of course there's a ton more to do... but this is the basic requirement if a deep freeze pops up in the late fall.

    Since the 409 is closed cooling for parts of the system, what's the minimum winterization needed for freezing temps?

    Everything you mention above minus the engine block plugs and the heater. Add the raw water side of the heat exchanger. On the newer motors there is a small plug on the back side of the exhaust CAT as well (at least there is on the zr450). Also have to drain water from the little thermostat for the CATS which is right under the engine cover. V-drive/transmission plug as well.

      The newer PCM manual, which you can download online, also has a great diagram that shows all the areas to drain water for freeze protection.
