    Why we do it

Just thought I would share, why we do this. My boys (and wife) have learned this summer. Just the basics of getting up and moving around a little so far, but lots of fun summers ahead.

Dan: Are these from last night? Great pics. I've got some to add as well. Dan and I tried to meet up at LKA. Didnt find each other. My kids wanted to tube (hanging head in shame). But - hey - kids are kids and I stayed in the big water!

They are from last night. We've had the pleasure of being on the water at about sunset a few nights this summer. Makes some awesome pictures. We had to search high and low for some smooth water, as there were some tubers (not you, BoardSkier) tearing up a normally nice quiet cove. My guys still like to just jump off the anchored boat and swim as much as ride, so it was fun either way.

Teaching youngsters has been a very rewarding experience. Granted, opportunity has to be there, but it seems easiest to teach when they are under ten. . .when we have guests out lately, the teens who we teach sometime take longer to learn. KcStart 'em young, and it's a skill they'll always have!

Yeah, the oldest is 12. He is not picking it up as fast as the 10 year old. But, they both get up every time now so it's just them figuring out how much they want to push themselves.

I'm a bit disgusted. Learning to surf behind a boat is sickening. Take them to the real water. I'm so sick of bad surfers and fail wake boarders on the lake. Pick up a ski and be a man or women. Bunch of sissies afraid of something actually hard.

Wow Jhersey! Your gonna get blasted in a sec! I don't much see the appeal if wake surfing either but will take non water people out to try that or knee boarding and they have fun. I also hate seeing a surfer screwing up good flat water when they could be out in the middle of the lake.

                What's a fail wakeboarder anyway.

And to the OP cool pics! Your right this is what it's all about!

I'm anticipating the blasting. But if the beeting I get is one less person power turning, running circles around the ski course, respecting the water for other I have won.

And everyone on a small body or any body of water should be required to learn to barefoot. The effects of a roller sent 7 miles up a river does not go unnoticed.

There's respect to learned by all on the lake for sure. I can tell you that we are very considerate of others, wake board in small coves, straight down the waterway, and we NEVER power turn. I wish I could say the same for the jet skiers and I/O tubers destroying any good waters for everyone.

You sir are a pop tart, or a tool. I should come over and wash your mouth out with a bar of soap, for making a comment like that.

I am 40 this year and can assure you that I grew up when Salom skiing was cool. Yes I can Salom ski, after a couple of years most people can get to an advanced level of skiing a course. With barefooting , I can assure you isn't that hard either.
Maybe you should grab a wakeboard and load down your boat and try boarding out. You just may have fun. I know I do whether it is skiing or boarding. I can assure you that it is a lot harder to get to an advanced level wakeboarding than skiing(except for trick Salom skiing, props to those guys and gals)

Ok I'll apologize to all wakeboarders. It is not you and or your preferred stick. I had a rough day yesterday with wakeboard boat drivers. Not the wake boarders. There is only one spot on the lake with a slalom course. Its not better than the rest of the lake. If the course is glass so is the rest of the lake. I just would like some of them to try turning around a ball with your elbow nearly scraping the water and try to do that with a wakeboard boat doing circles around the course. We have one spot to slalom ski on the course and can't just move the course at a whims notice. For some reason it is only wakeboard boats that do this. They just need to learn respect for what we are trying to do. Believe me I go way out of my way to keep the water calm so that they can enjoy some roller free water. If only they knew common water etiquette. Not one of them will listen for reason and its always guys with 80000 boats. My apologies to all wakeboarders. I do also wakeboard and know how fun it is. It is can even be more fun in water that is not all curbed up.

Sorry you had a bad day, I know as a boarder and Salom skier I try to have respect. It does suck to be leaned over and hit a roller and do a cart wheel. I know when Salom skiers are out on my lake I give them 20 mins and I know they will be done, after that I then go have my turn.
It is funny they all think I never ski and never invite me. Some are a bit snobbish. Ever year I try to invite them out and they always decline. When I go out during the week I get glass and still ski better than them, but they never see me lol

Also feel your frustration (living on a lake with arguably the highest boat density in the US). I am an ex-barefoot/slalomer, current wakeboarder, occasional surfer and forever tube "hater".
It seems to me that the amount of water disruption is inversely proportional to the length of time that the activity is sustainable.
On one end of the spectrum bare footing causes little water disruption, demands the best water, and doesn't last very long. On there other end is tubing which can be sustained for what seems an eternity and makes the bay unusable to the other disciplines.
In my bay a few of us (unfortunately few) follow the logical rule of stopping surfing to let wake boarders or slalom skiers get in a set, stopping our wake boarding to allow others to get in their shorter slalom and occasional footing sets, and some of the tubers seem to respect wake and ski sets.
Would like to have this be a more widely used rule. I really think that many people who are new to boating have no idea that skiers and boarders sets are affected by their wakes. Perhaps when a boat is sold the buyer should at least have access to the rules of the road and wake courtesy.
