Here's some pictures of how I have done it before with two. One on a short rope and one on a long rope.

We have done this numerous times with only one problem. We used a rope that didn't float and it got caught in the houseboat prop while slacked. We had to buy a new houseboat prop. Now we have a floating rope for that purpose.

50-60' works just fine. We go from the boat's front eye to the houseboat's cleat.

When you stop the houseboat you'll see the Nauti has more purchase into the water than the houseboat. Accordingly, the Nautique will want to stop before the houseboat does. The result is that your Nautique won't rear-end the houseboat.
