How much should I pay for 2000 Super Air Nautique?
I have been searching a few months for a SAN. I have located a 2000 SAN. This boat is in fair condition for its age. The interior has some cracks in the vinyl, and would need replacing at some point. There are service records available. I test drove the boat, and it starts up great. The boat runs great. It still has the original Teleflex gauges, which are pretty much shot. You can barely see the number "8" on the hours, which tells me there are around 800 hours on the GT-40. But I would obviously need new gauges. There is no perfect pass, something else I would want to add. The right keypad(which controls the ballast function, bilge, lights, etc.) is not working, the seller said that he had the whole right side simply disconnected. I don't know how hard this would be to re-wire and correct.

I think it is great (low) price, assuming there is nothing else major wrong. I wouldn't sell my 2000 San for anywhere near that low. I am assuming it comes witg the trailer. Now

There is nothing else major wrong. I had the nautique dealer inspect it for me. The engine was good, good compression test. Only problems the dealer said was the dash gauges. I just didn't want to drop $15,000 without hearing from some of you guys.

Galvanized trailer most likely means salt water use. With it in that terrible of interior shape i would be worried about how well the engine and electrical are maintained. I would offer 12k and not pay more than 14.

Yeah I'd pass on that one, unless you are looking for a project and have a lot of spare time. I'd guess you are looking at $5k just to get it looking decent (new interior, gauges, keypad, buff job etc). Spend a few more bucks and get something that will be less hassle. Just one guy's opinion.

I'd pass on this one. Too much work. If the interior looks like that I doubt the mechanicals are in any better shape regardless of what the dealer says. Clearly no pride of ownership, which for me is a big deal. I agree with "thedude" you would be looking at $5k (maybe more) to get that in decent shape.

When I first responded, I was on my phone and did not have time to look at the pics. The interior is a bit rougher than I expected.
If you get PP, you don't need to change the gauges. I did on mine, but you get both speed and rpm on perfect pass. I also wouldn't bother changing the whole interior (which will cost you $5k to have done with factory skins, about half without factory skins). I've done the install myself (with factory skins), and (a) it took me all summer and (b) it makes one too anal afterward. You will have more fun with an interior that you are not always worried about. I would probably change the skin on the observer's seat bottom. That would probably run $150 - $300 depending on who does the installation.
I think the instrument keypads are connected by Deutsch plugs and are very easy to swap out. They are not cheap though for certain. Remember the PN discount though.
I would say a 2000 SAN in good (but not pristine) shape on a good trailer should be worth at least 20k (I wouldn't sell mine for less than that, and probably more as I have custom ballast added). The one you are looking at you can still read the hours on. Most have had their gauges replaced, so you would have no idea on the hours for most 2000-2001 model years with the GT-40s. Knowledge of the hours is worth something, and 800 something is about right for a boat of that vintage.
The real question is whether the boat was a salty. If so, all bets are off on price.
Also, I would discount it for being that color green. Black, red, blue are you major colors for resale value. Next is probably all white. Yellows, greens, burgundies, purpoles, teals, and other colors tend to be more nichey and have a smaller market for resale, typically resulting in a lower price.Last edited by Chexi; 08-26-2014, 04:02 PM.Now

The owner swears no salt water. There are no signs of corrosion anywhere on the boat or engine. And he says the keypad works, it has just been disconnected for some reason. The nautique dealer said the engine was in good condition with a good compression test.

You can talk yourself into something all day. Im sure it will work fine and all but that boat is not worth 15. The tan gel and green does not appeal to many. The interior is trashed and its on a single axle galv trailer. Offer him a firm 12 and walk if he comes back higher than 14. My boats white red and black an a 97 that was in prestine shape. Also had perfect pass and 650 hours. Got it for 18500. A deal but nothing unheard of. Keep looking an dont settle. This is an important purchase

Obviously the interior is shot, and needs a whole lotta work. If the dealer "signed off" on the engine and hull, then at 12k you'd be getting this boat at a good price. FYI, book value for mine is still at $20k CDN.Current : 2000 Pro Air Nautique, Silver&Black accents, pulled by 2012 black Chevy Tahoe

Say you pay $13k. The boat will most likely need $5k of work to get it into something you would be proud to take friends out on. What else is available for $18K? I'd bet you would be able to find a SS or maybe a SAN in much better condition than what you are looking at. Perfect Pass alone is going to cost you $1200 so the $5k "reconditioning" budget will go fast. I'd keep looking. Even what appears straight forward (i.e. the disconnected dash pad) has trouble written all over it. Who disconnects something that controls some of the most important functions for the boat (bilge pump, blower) and doesn't fix it ASAP? Most likely a short which can be time consuming and expensive to fix.

I honestly don't have $18,000 cash to drop on a boat right now. I personally am okay with the interior not being in good condition. I am an avid wakeboarder, and am honestly just wanting something to take out on the weekends to work on my skills.
Do you think that I should try finding another boat for around $13,000 or purchase this one for $13,000?
Thanks again guys, I appreciate all of your input.
