Budget Wakesurf boat

Ok guys, I'm relatively new to the forum. I purchased my first ski/wake sports boat in May, a 1999 Air Nautique. As it turns out the family's participation level is better than I expected so we are looking at a possible upgrade.

In addition to the boat tubing for the little ones, we have really taken to surfing, the boat with a lot of listing and ballast allows the teenagers to let go of the rope, I still cannot.

So my question.... what would the next step up be from a 1999 Air DD?

look for an older SANTE 210. those can be had for that price range. I used to surf my 04 with stock ballast 1 750 fatsack on the rear surf side and about 400lbs of lead weight in the bow. A lot of people have upgrades the ballast on those.

Not sure 210 is all that great of a surf boat? I know it can be done but I have found the pocket to be fairly short. Would a 211 or 226 possibly be a better option?

For surfing you would want a V drive boat with stock ballast + sacs (or passenger ballast) to get something on the order of 800 - 1,000 pounds on the surf side rear corner plus that amount forward, either in the belly or the bow. . .just my 2 cents.

I think there was a write up once that explained the predecessor to the "classic" 210 hull was the Super Sport, so if you got that and added a tower and ballast, you'd have a les expensive version of the original 210 (I hope I have stated this accurately).

Not sure what the market prices are on SS, Classic 210s and 210 from '08 and forward, but http://www.onlyinboards.com/ is a place to start looking for asking prices

Yes you got it right. 95-06 Super Sport, Super Air or 210 are all the same hull. In 02 they got a top deck redesign that narrowed the gunnels to make for a roomier interior. This hull is also the same as the OPs 99 Air just in a v-drive.

The classic 210 is just an OK surf boat but it is an excellent wakeboard boat. If you can stretch your budget a little bit you should be able to get into a 220 which would be a much better surf boat than the classic 210.

Pretty much any boat without a Surf System is gonna have to list 8-10 degrees to make a good surf wave.

this is a nautique forum but that being said the best and most common surf boats in your price range will be the centurions and tige 22v/24v. The Deep V hull is what makes the best surf waves. With not as good but still acceptable wakeboarding wakes.

That being said if you still want the classic nautique wakes for boarding the SANTe boats produce a wave easier. But not much different because the hull is pretty much the same.

We surf behind our 93 sport nautique with 750 in the rear, 750 surf side and 350 in the locker, makes a short steep pocket that is rideable but not that great for tricks.

My friend had a late 90s Malibu Sunsetter v drive that made a decent surf wave and great wakeboard wake. Really nice boat

there are lots of early 2000's v drive boats in your price range, you may be giving up some nautique quality levels in some though.
