Wouldn't lead in the boat, unlike water bags, make the boats flotation inefective or useless?

Lead is "static" weight, in other words if your boat starts to go down the lead is going to keep pulling the boat down until it hits the bottom. If you use water then once the fatsacs are submerged they become neutrally buoyant, meaning that they won't pull your boat to the bottom... I'd only run about 25-30% of my weight in static...

This is your boat on lead.

I definitely wouldn't recommend leaving the lead weight in the boat on the trailer, by doing this you are not only stressing the hull, but you are also going to effect your breaking as well...
          How about \"Chales\"?

I have used lead to replace human weight when you ride/ski with smaller crews. I previously ran about 400 lbs wrapped in towels under the back seat of my old boat spread across the rear of the boat. I only towed with it there a few times, just be careful and use a little common sense.
