Surf- ability of the 2007 236TE

Hey so I am an intermediate surfer shopping for a new to me boat. I really can't wakeboard any more so all my concerns are around surfing. Budget restricts me from buying anything newer.....60k is about all I got.

The 236 looks like a capable boat but I am not quite getting enough info out of google to be sure. This seems like it would be the best resource and I have a couple of questions.

How good of a surf boat is this?

    What are your ballast configs?

Its a pretty tall boat, does it fit in a 8' garage with the tower folded?

I know that I COULD be shopping for a Tige or Centurion but I just cant get over the looks of those things and build quality is a concern of course.

    Thanks!

Great, I will start researching the 230 as well. Meanwhile does anyone else have any input?

I own a 2007 236. It is a great surf boat. I removed the rear tanks and replaced them with 1,100 bags. It is the best thing I ever did. When we are not boarding or surfing you have an amazing amount of storage space. You will love this boat!

How do you think I should weight it when I demo it? The boat will have hard tanks installed

If you really want to demo a 236 with hard tanks to surf you can do two things: Bring a bunch of friends and pile them in the corner you plan to surf on. Or...bring a portable sac and put it on top of the hard tanks. Ideal for my boat is as follows:

            I surf starboard side:

            Starboard 1,100
            Belly full
            Port 500-600 pounds

A few folks in the bow

It will be huge! I set PP around 8.5-9.5 depending on water depth

            Good Luck

Cool. That helps. So these boats like a little bow weight I gather and maybe a slower speed then I'm used to.

The above setup will work great. If demoing a boat with out extra ballast, buy a 750 Fly Hi, or LF Sumo 800, etcc. fill the stock hard tank and then fill the ballast bag on top of that tank. Fill the opposite stock tank and stock belly. hopefully you decided to buy a pair of 750's (you'll need them later anyway), put the other' 750 on the floor to the base of the bow seat and fill it half-ish. We tend to surf a little faster than above, but play with it from his SSTex's speeds to about 10.7 mph for a ceiling. Play with the Hydrogate, it will adjust/clean the wake a little depending on which side you prefer to surf.

                Have fun!
BTW $60k should get you into a nice '08/'09 depending on options...

Sweet. I've got two 750s three 450s and a 300 tube sack to use. Thanks for the input! Sounds like pretty typical setup but I had to ask because I know some boats that don't like bow weight etc.

which side surfs better on these?

I think the starboard side surfs better.

Great surf boat, if not the best CC ever made including current G series. With standard ballast you already can surf. It will only go better when ballast added.

you should be able to get an 07 for less than 50k. I sold my fully loaded 07 236TE with tricked out trailer, zr6, and wetsounds stereo, less than 200hrs for 54k 3 years ago. guy I sold it too advertised it last year for 50k and took less with still low hrs. I loved that boat but we never surfed much.

I think you would be surprised how strong the market is for a 230/236 right now. I bought my boat used in late 2008 for $50K cash during the financial crisis. Yes, I have put a lot of money into it: Z5, wet sounds, sea dek, new cover. I am looking to get rid of mine and buy a new to me G and $55K seems to be the number 230/236's in good shape are going for. I basically will break even on the boat, lose a little on options after 5 years on ownership. Not bad...Now if I can just find a black G for $75-$80K I am in...

I have an 07 236team, love it for surfing and wakeboarding. You shouldn't have any problems finding what you want in your price range.

I am not the owner but you may want to look at this one. http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/boa/4659186641.html Looks to have everything you are looking for. Great color. Located in Indianapolis. Tow-away transport service usually runs $1.25 to $1.35 per mile.
