There is a little article over on wake world (http://www.wakeworld.com/news/featur...shapiro-2.html) on Darin Shapiro and his thoughts on competitive wakeboarding. I have to say I completely agree with him. With Mastercraft dropping the PWT, one has to wonder what the current state of wakeboarding as a sport is. Like Darin, I would like to see riders judged on how big they take tricks instead of all this technical stuff and all these spins. Might be a much better draw for crowds and television coverage. It would be nice to see wakeboarding back in the X games. I don't see wakesurfing becoming the next great spectator sport. What are everyones thoughts on the current state of competitive wakeboarding and what changes would you like to see? I know if Shapiro and Murray were on competing against each other taking raleys to the moon, I would take a day off of work to see that!

We are primarily slalom skiers, but do wake board a little every summer, so take this with a grain of salt. I used to love "Hot Summer Nights" many years ago. We recorded and watched the King of Wake Tour last summer expecting the same level of entertainment (or better). I was kind of bored. Enough said?Ski on dude!

I agree with you. The riders are just throwing the same 5 or 6 tricks every run. Definitely need something that is a bit more entertaining and something that is going to get kids more involved and interested in the sport. I like surfing, but I can't imagine a wakesurf tour being any fun to watch, but to each his own.

I think he did a short stint. Probably still on probation. Between the judicial system and his bank account he probably got off pretty easy. If he had herb he'd be in for 10-20. But synthetic, addictive opiates.....no big deal.

It is the same as competitive snowboarding. Double cork, triple cork, everybody doing the same runs. I think it has also died out because of the easy access to web videos now. 10 years ago you couldnt watch any number of pros throw out a quality freeride video on a daily basis. You had to go to a pro tour stop, watch it on tv, or wait for a video to be released once a year. Now they have go pros and drones getting top quality angles on a daily basis.
The xgames is not what it used to be either. The best part is the "real snow" contest where they film video parts and compete against other videos. That would be awesome if they did that for wakeboarding. Then it would be truly about creativity and style.
