    ZR6 idle

I've got about 30 hours on my new 196 with the ZR6. Very nice and other than the usual new boat kinks I am very happy with the boat. One thing that is bothering me is the RPM run up when the boat shifts from gear into neutral. RPM's blip up to around 1300 and then drops down to around 800. Reminds me of the run-up on my 99 GT40. My question is, is this normal? It is a real pain in the butt when maneuvering around the dock or working with a new skier to have to wait for the RPM's to return to normal before shifting.
    Thanks

Mine doesn't do that. I'd get it checked out by the dealer.

My 98 SN with GT 40 did the same thing. Took it to the dealer
and they made some kind of adjustment. Never did it again.
Apparently pretty common as they knew right away what to do.

99 GT-40 did it. I read somewhere there is a fix for this.
        02 Excalibur did not.
05 ZR6 does it. It almost feels like the transmission is releasing into neutral at too low an RPM and then the engine compensates by increasing RPM's. Will ask the dealer about it later this summer.

I'll have to check that the next time out.

Do you have cruise control? If so, remove the red cover on the top of the engine and see if the problem is solved. If so, grind the under side of the cover so the servo cable doesn't get hung up on the cover.

              Thanks. Digital pro.
I'll check the cover in the morning. I had to do some tight manuvering around the dock today and while it didn't ruin the day, it was a pain in the butt. Very hard to, gear, neutral, gear when the rev's are spiking.

My 05 is my third ZR6. It also has this problem, my '04 and '03 did not have the problem. It like seems something has changed this year in the engine ecm. Perfect Pass cable interference or adjustment is not the problem. I even played around with it with the PP cable detached by blipping the throttle manually at the throttle body. Seems to me like the ecm is trying to compensate for the boat going into gear by increasing the idle speed, but is very slow to drop it out when the load is removed by goijng into nuetral. It is interesting to note that there are others with the same behavior. When I got the boat I just assumed that there was excess clearance between the PP nut and throttle arm which is usually the cause of this type of problem. When I got around to adjusting it, I found that this wasn't the cause in this case.

Accually check to see if the red cover is torquing down and hitting the throttle arm, if it is then check your quick drain hose and trans shift cable routing to make sure it is not hitting the red cover and flexing it down hitting the throttle arm and binding it .

This could be the case for others, but mine did the same thing with the PerfectPass cable disconnected when I was throttling it by hand. THis was with the red cove removed and nothing close to the throttle arm.
