how to check if hours are legit

I posted that I might buy an 01 SAN. Besides looking behind the dash, how can you tell if the hours are legit?

If it has an Excalibur then the dealership can pull the "actual motor run time'' off of the ECU. If it's the GT-40 then you are out of luck. The GT-40's however do not have this feature, and there is really no way to tell if the hours are legit.

Nevermind it must have the GT-40 I think that the Excalibur didn't get put in boats untill '02...
    How about \"Chales\"?

The hours should be on the dash console. Also if you have perfect pass it has an hour meter. Mine also has a seperate meter just under the dash on the kick panel. Keep in mind that you are talking about 2000 to 2400 hours before an engine overhauul. As a result unless the boat was owned by a club it shouldn't have more than 750 hours on it Mine has 1300 and looks like it has 400.

        Baedriver,

I believe Dragon is right. The chevys can be hooked up to the computer
to check hours, the Ford cannot.

My recommendation is use common sense. 107 hours is not much
on a boat. Probably less than 20 days if taken to a lake. Is the
upholstery pristine. Is the carpet like knew. Does the steering
wheel have signs of wear. Is there oil, dirt, grunge in the bilge.
Is there any rust on the engine, manifolds, vdrive, etc. Are the
stickers on the engine still in good shape? Are there many scratches
on the boat. Ask for the maintenance records. How does the trailer
look? Look like it's been dunked a few times, or hundreds of times?
        You get the idea.

Ultimately, these boats, well maintained can run 2000, 2500, or more
hours. So, if it has 300 or 400 hours on it, no big deal. There
are some exceptions, but usually when a boat get to 800, 1000, 1200 hours it shows some wear. Just like a car, warn out gas pedals,
wear in the drivers seat, etc. it a tell tale sign of mileage.

Ultimately, if the boat is clean, if you can afford it, if you want it, go for it.
