Towing a 99' 210

That sucks, how many miles were on it? The new f150s have lifter problems. I might look at Chevy 1500. Paxdad is right, I feel like I'm on egg shells and borrowed time with the f250.

I've owned several F250/350s, Duramaxes, and Chevy 1/2 tons.. Never had an F150 or Ram for any length of time other than something I was flipping. I used to flip/sell every 3-4 months but the last 5 or so years I've just had two trucks that I drove every day.

Currently I have a crew cab 2011 1/2 ton Chebby 4x4. It's equipped with the 6.2, 6 speed, and 3.73 gears. The power train is great and it pulls like a freight train. Granted it's a 1/2 ton so it doesn't like tongue weight as much as a bigger truck but if I really wanted to a set of helper bags would be awesome. You can also tell when you have a heavier load back there when braking more so than I remembered for my 3/4 and 1 tons. I also dont pass many gas stations. Especially towing. If you can find a gm 6.2 in your budget I would at least give it a test drive.

Have you given any consideration to a Toyota? We have a Toyota Sequoia with leveling air bags and it pulls our G23 surprisingly well. I would not consider it without the bags, however the 5.7 V8 & 6 Speed seem to be quite solid. The Tundras are rated for even higher towing than our Sequoia - I would still add bags for leveling and comfort...I cannot stand the bumpy ride of full sized trucks anymore on a day to day basis. I as well, do not pass many gas stations while pulling the boat (7-8 MPG with boat in tow), but it is my daily driver and can handle the towing task when called to duty.

I agree with Trey, if you can find a Chev/GMC with the 6.2 and 6 speed, you would have a winner. The GM 6.0 does well, but are generally matched to a 4 speed an seem to get about 11 mpg ALL the time.

Before getting our Toyota, we looked at Fords and the dealer was even trying to push away from the 5.4 liter.

I have an 05 f150 with 3.55 gears and 35" tires. I towed myy 210 from Minnesota to illinois with it. Got 7mpg.

Plugs are a one time job and not hard if u find the right mechanic.

If u dont care about mpg. They are solid trucks.

I'm guessing you got away from the recommended plugs? I just changed my 4th set (200k miles). The current ones aren't the original design but still somewhat fragile.

Ya plugs got changed at 87k. Wont change again until i am pushin 200k

I am still using my '05 Excursion with the 6.0 and I still love it! I tow heavy boats all over the east coast and have had very few issues with it over the last ten years and 220,000 miles. The 6.0 is bulletproofed, and I have no doubt that it will keep on going strong for the next few years. Bought it new in '05.

It had 150k on it when the phazers went out, but that seems to have been pure luck. After reading up on it, I have seen them go out under warranty. Unfortunatly, I had only added 8k of those buying it used. I realize that at 150k miles, a gasoline engine has probably met its expectancy, or close to it, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth, especially after reading it was a common problem. Wish I would have researched more and just trying to pass along information.

I love my truck and it's almost paid for but.... I have oil leak under the turbo from the dealer hacking up the previous job... So, if I do keep it, im going to remove the turbo and intake so i can fix the leak
