    New Nautique Owner

Hey guys, Just picked up my very first Nautique.

1990 Sport 330 hrs and in awsome shape.

    Couple of quick questions.

    1. Anyone using synthetic oil in the trany? Brand? How hard to change over / Flush out old stuff?

    2. Anyone using Lucus in the engine? I did in my last boat.

    3. The oil light is on and the stick reads full. Is there a reset or do I have a bad sensor?

    4. We are gonna build and mount a tower. This will be our second one. Any one have recomendations for mounting this to the hull?

    5. I have done a search on these forums for my model and year. But could some one who has a 90 - 93 have any info I should be aware of?
Like any tips on chaging oils without dirtying up the billiage area?

Im still reading through the owners manual and cant wait to get this baby on the river on a regular basis.

I welcome and all coments good or bad....

    RE: New Nautique Owner

Congratulations on your purchase, I am sure you will love the boat. I am a long time CC Owner, but mostly of older boats. I purchased a '93 SN last September and just finished restoring the boat last night. Today I will start the engine for the first time since I have owned her (370 hours).

    Anyway, to your questions:
    1. I would not hesitate to use synthetic oil in both the engine and tranny since synthetics are all backwards compatible. However, I am not sure of the need since neither the engine nor tranny generate much heat. Also, I hate to start a war on what is best dino or synthetic, so just make up your own mind and go with it.
    2. Personally, I stay away from oil additives period.
    3. Probably a faulty pressure switch located near the sending unit just to the front and above the oil filter...it is "tee-d" off the extension pipe of the oil pressure sending unit.
    4. I always admire people who build there own stuff...good luck. The deck ahead of the windsheild is very thick and strong, so no problems there (pulling force). The gunnels for the rear feet are relatively thin (pushing force), so the larger the feet, the better.
    5. During the restoration of my '93 which does not have any wood, I really did not find weak or under engineered/designed areas. Your boat has wood stringers, so make sure they are in good shape or at least that the fiberglass in and around the bilge does not have any cracks or holes that will allow water to reach the stringers.

Great boats, enjoy...I cannot wait for my boats maiden voyage this Saturday.

I don't want to open a can of worms but I think that PCM doesn't recommend synthetic for the engine. I'm not sure why and I'm not sure about the transmission.
      Ski on dude!

Yeah on a 90, stick with what's in it. No need to change oil types on a 15 year old boat. 15W 40 HD Diesel oil for the engine. I have 20wt oil in the trans, works great. I've tried all the gimmicks/techniques for removing the oil filter without spilling in the bilge, and I still manage to every single time. Now I just sacrifice an old towel by lining the bilge with it before pulling the filter. Drain the trans through the dipstick hole with a drill pump. The plunger-type pumps are awful, so don't buy one of those. Should be 2 qts. Only replace what comes out. Don't overfill. I know this year boat inside out so PM me with questions if you have more.

I had the same problem with the light staying on.....a 20-30 dollar sensor change fixed the problem...

On the 90 vintage boats they had the systems alarm audible and small light a top of ther pods that would light up for the probem. There is a module under the deck that you have to access thru the door in walk thru area on the drivers side, the module will have a connector in one end and three screw adjustments for the alarms(volts, temp, and oil pressure not in that order) some times you have to adjust the screws to cure the problem but first you may want to check you dash wiring first because the module works off signals from the dash gauges.
