Possible PLANETNAUTIQUE Gathering - Spring, 2015 at Lake Norman, NC

I am finally considering putting together some sort of official PLANETNAUTIQUE gathering this spring at Lake Norman, NC. I am looking for ideas of what types of activities you might want to see at this event. This would likely be in conjunction with our local Nautique dealer, Race City Marine, and White Lake Marine / NautiqueParts may be involved as well.

Some things that have been discussed are...

* Renting a local waterfront park, and setting up a location for us all to have our boats in the water to hang out

* Bringing in a Team Nautique pro rider or two to give demos and lessons

* Setting up a surf contest of some sort (with prizes)

What would draw you to come to this meet-up? What sort of activities would make you want to come out? Post here and let me know your ideas and hopefully we can make this happen!

I would be up for it but that's a long pull from Texas. For me just a big group of boaters there to have fun would be enough. The rest is just icing.

Count me in. I would love to see a pro rider take a set behind the PN boat. And somewhere close to a ramp that is somewhat hassle-free if possible

I should be in. Got an old 91 sport I'm restoring and should be good to go by spring.

An easy ramp and renting out a good waterfront spot would be ideal.

This would be fun to do... as long as dates worked I would be in as well. Good lodging that allows for good hang out time with everyone is always nice... if a competition then something that is more fun spirited like maybe everyone puts their boats and board in a hat then each person draws a boat and board to ride at random then we peer vote the winners

Besides Jeff and Hunter, where were all these guys this past fall at the Lake Norman gathering, lol.

A central location preferably a nice campground on the water .

Jeff, as Mike mentioned a campground with a launch, beach or nearby sandbar makes a great spot for these, bonus if hotels, bars, restaurants are close by, double bonus if walking distance.

Been to many of these CC/Nautique gatherings and Green Lake, WI is so far one of the best venues mostly because it has all mentioned above within walking distance although water conditions are not always ideal. Equally as good and better in some ways would be someone willing to host like Reid last fall or as Benjamin's do out in Connecticut every August.

Location is the most important thing, after that once everybody shows up the fun will happen on its own.

This sounds like a great idea. I like the competition idea of drawing a board and a boat out of the hat.

An event in Charlotte is a great idea.

But an early season event in the warm sun of Florida, when most PN members are not able to ride yet, would also be a great way to kick off the year. Orlando water temps are decent by March 15 usually. Could get enough folks attending that we could pay for pro coach or two to give pointers as well. Combine with a CC factory tour and I suspect CC would get a few boat sales from the event.

Also make it at least a weekend you wont attract people from long distance for a 1 day event.

I like your idea. What month were you thinking? Hotels, restaurants and easy boat ramp access will be nice. Some prizes for events sounds fun too.

This is great! It sounds like there is some interest, and I think this could be a really fun event. I have an idea for a location that would allow us to camp, have available restrooms, and have facilities for cooking and eating under shelter. There is a boat launch very close, too. I need to work on the details and see if it is truly a feasible location. And no, for those of you that came to Lake Norman for the event this past year put on by CCF, this would not be the same location.

Any contests would be purely fun-based, nothing too serious at all! I like some of the ideas I have seen here! We can certainly make some prizes happen!

Of those who would consider making the trip, how many would be willing to camp, and how many would want to stay in a hotel? The location I have in mind is in the state park (but not necessarily in their camping area), so there aren't really any hotels that are too close-by. The closest ones would be 10-15 miles out. Same thing with restaurants. There are some good ones accessible by water that would be close, but for those not wanting to navigate an unfamiliar lake at night, the restaurants in Mooresville (and there are some good ones) are a 15-20 minute ride.

Also, if we could get a pro or two to come out, who would you want to see?

Would be interested depending on dates. Few things to consider. Absolutely no alcohol allowed at state park. If they see you with any you will be asked to leave no warning. My guess is that many of the people that live on the southern part of the lake and on eastern side of Brawley school road might not be as willing to boat that far north. As you stated no bars hotels restaurants etc. I'm not a 100% sure but I don't think you can beach your boat there and walk up to a picnic.


Have you considered the below locations? You can not camp at these but give you everything else people are looking for. This side is much more crowded though.


Ramsey Creek, Blythe landing, Jetton park. These are all together.

I would be willing to camp... the state park is a great idea. One option to help park boats would be a houseboat rental or two, if available, which would provide a floating dock... I would be willing to go for that... also provides a central gathering place. Do you have dates in mind Jeff? Thanks for the idea!
