    Help me choose a boat

I am in the market for the best combination slalom and wake surf boat. I do not want to compromise on the slalom wake but would like a solid wake for surfing. We are recreational (hard core but not competitive) skiers. Is the Sport Nautique the best choice or would you recommend the Air Nautique 210 or G21? I currently own a Mastercraft Maristar 200 - love the skiing but a little lacking on the wake surf wake, even after adding ballast.

Plan on owning two boats. A great surf and slalom boat does not exist.
2013 G23 450 with NSS (175hrs) and still have the original prop
    2010 SANTE 230 343 (280hrs)
pre 2010 - various open bow boats and jet skis

The 200v is likely your best compromise since skiing is a priority.

What year is your Maristar 200? Makes a huge difference. Your budget is also needed to steer you the right direction.

with that much focus on skiing the 200 Sport is your only V-drive choice. And make sure you get the center pylon option. But of course, the final answer is you have to try them for yourself. Skiability of V-drives is one of the most debated topics on this board.

I went with the two boat option . My 08 210 does an excellant job with surfing and wakeboarding . I also have a 92 Supra Comp I picked up cheap with a broken drive shaft and no prop . It is a great ski boat but not so good for anything else.

Like others have said, if you're hardcore into slalom, the 200V is the only option to consider. However, even the 200V is still a compromise on slalom wake, albeit a nice compromise. Speaking just to hardcore slalom, the Super Airs are un-skiable. I even tried skiing behind a 216 Crossover last summer, and there's no chance you're pulling through those wakes no matter how stacked you are.

I know this is a Nautique forum, butI would recommend doing a little research on a 2012+ mastercraft x30 for slalom skiing + surfing. That's the only boat I've heard anyone say has a decent ski wake and surf wake. Note that this is based on what I've read on forums like this one and not personal experience, but I could see it being the case since the x30 has a flatter running surface than most surf/wake oriented boats.

Of course, there are always compromises and you know that. Based on your current boat and comments (love the skiing but not the surfing) it seems that it would be best to 'slide' the sweet spot a bit closer towards the surfing. My opinion is that the 200V will not accomplish this goal, you will be getting a better slalom wake (probably quite a bit better) but I would expect the surfing to be similar to what you have now, overall a net gain but not in the surfing area.

with skiing and surfing you are working against the other one. Better surfing = MORE weight, Better slalom = LESS weight. IMHO if you try to split the difference you will be unhappy with both as neither is optimized. You are trying to solve a two boat question with a one boat answer. The math doesn't work unfortunately.

200V is an approved boat for Slalom comp.
If you load it heavily you can have a decent (but not outstanding)surf wake

There is no similar wake on Mastercraft. The x-30 won´t work for slalom

LOL, never skied one but a deep vee hulled v-drive is likely to have (by todays standards) a mediocre slalom wake at best, would hope the 200V, although not a great wake, would be a better slalom wake then a Maristar.

Have your local dealer take you out for a demo with your ski and board, betting the 200V could be a good fit for you.

Agreed, and you'll be shocked at much nicer the 200V slalom wake is, compared to what you're used to.

The 200v is the way to go. Slalom is good.

You have to slam with ballast, but the surf wave is good. Current member, lakerats, has tonight me how to use the boat.

We have removed the stock ballast, I fill an 1100 in the locker (prob 900?), fill another 1100 in the floor, and a 250 on the front bow seat. Displacement.
