    Flight-Clips Question - 2004 SAN

Not sure if anyone else has an issue with the Flight Clips on later model SAN's... On my 2004 210-Team I am very unimpressed, and have three particular issues. I ride larger boards (140+) and I usually ride with my bindings all-the-way-out. When I put a board facing the INSIDE of the boat, my board(s) almost never sit completely in the Flight Clip, because the tower always hits the bindings. I have adjusted the Flight Clip's distance from one another, etc, and it makes little difference. Secondly, when I do get a recently used board on the inside position it drips water all over the inside of the boat and water even hits the driver in the face! Very distracting when driving the next rider. Lastly, it is very difficult to get boards in and out of relative to other racks I have seen. My wife finds it especially difficult.

After all that  , my question is, are there after-market board racks that eliminate these issues? Matercraft and Supra now offer the "Swing-Racks" and I would gladly look into a 3rd part company that offered that style of board rack. I love my boat, and am marveled at most every other aspect of it's construction, and it would be nice to get the boards racks on the same level of engineering marvel.

Give Correct Craft a couple of months. Rumor is that new swiveling board racks are on the way.

My 01 was pre flight clip, so I have aftermarket racks. They
present all of the issues you have described, except my bindings
don't hit on the tower. As a matter of course, I take the boards
in and out of the racks. If I let anyone else do it, they seem to end
up banging the board on the boat, using the bimini as a balancing
pole, or some other not so good consequence.

bkhallpasss, Isn't it funny how most of us boat owners can predict what knuckle-head maneuver our passenger(s) are going to do!Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

Yea. And . . . no matter how much you anticipate, they'll surprise you.
I have bumpers, pre tied, and marked bow and stern. All you have
to do is slip the loops around the cleats. Still, a majorityof our passengers
couldn't figure it out. I had to write "front and back" on the bumpers. Go
          Figure

hAaAa it's so funny how I'm always doing the same thing.. You would think the driver/owner of the boat shouldn't have to do most of the work. **** I even have to back my trailer down the ramp then go to my boat and drive it on the trailer.

Back to the original post.... I only bought one set of clips to test out. Yes, I too experience all of the aforementioned problems. I like the way they hug the tower, and I like the hold downs, but beyond that I can't see much to recommend them..... oh yes, I forgot....it's nice to keep it OEM. OK, so where do we go from here?

I considered Flight Clips for my 01 and decided against them last-minute for a number of reasons, not even including the one you mentioned. I don't like the attachments -- they get stuck between boards and are awkward. I also wanted to add an additional rack and wanted mine to match -- not possible with flight clips. I must admit, the upright board looks is unique and probably works well when tied up alongside other boats or a houseboat, though.

Ultimately I went with Mako racks since they have a mount that will work on the vertical tubes and I can run 3 (or more) of them. Additional benefit is they come off EASILY so I turn two of them sideways to clear my garage, plus I can easily pull them off for long-distance trailering. The biggest drawback with them is they have very narrow openings, which for the most part can't accomodate wakesurfers.

Thanks for the input. Funny how seemingly small design issues like this are sometimes overlooked...

I agree and maybe I will wait and see what CC's answer is to the "Swinging Board Rack Movement." :???:

...Rumor is that new swiveling board racks are on the way.
Although, I can only imagine the aftermarket price for these babies, Provided they are a compatible fit with previous year towers...
