    Bleach the Teak?

I saw the previous posts about cleaning the black mold out of teak with sanding and various cleaners. Has anyone ever used diluted bleach?

When I painted houses during college summers we used diluted bleach to clean a cedar sided house, rinsed, and restained (no repeat). I am curious if anyone has used a chlorine bleach cleaner on their teak to get the mold out. I would of course follow with regular teak cleaner, brightner, and oil.

Try the 2-step teak cleaner by Starbrite. Sanding the wood works also. I would stay away from bleach.

Yes you can Bleach your teak to get rid of the black marks, ie the mould, the best thing to use is a "Nappi san" solution, yes what you use to clean baby nappies.
Try it on some old teak and see for yourself.

Unfortunately I don't think they sell Nappi San in the states. I actually searched the web to find it and to find out what nappies are. The Mrs. may know of something similar here. Thanks for the tips.

If you search teak in the forums there will be several good strings on cleaning. I used the starbrite product and I really liked it. There is a product called teak-guard that has a whole web page on cleaning and protecting teak swim platformas

I have used the Star Brite and think they are great, they just have not gotten all the mold off. Probably some user error.

I use bleach and it always works fine - I never oil mine b/c that stuff is sticky, stains if you are not careful, and is a general mess - I bleach mine once every coupld of months - just the star brote teak brightener you can watch the bleach go to work, and see the teak lighten.

I use the Star Brite cleaner and a stiff bristle brush to get down into the crevices. It cleans up quickly and looks good. I use the oil to keep the color rich.
