    1st Post> Possibly buying an 89 Ski Natique tonight~! ???

1989 Ski Natique 2001 w/ 248 hours MINT~! Has one bent skag (tracking fin) Black stipe with yellow highlights. Prop turns easily but has a little gravely feel like gears turning. Is this normal? or something I should be concerned about. The owner is 71 yrs old. This boat is immaculate. Where to buy another skeg?
I can probably remove the one on there and have it pressed. Has anyone done that? As you can see the trailor is kinda small but I think with boat guides added and a little work it will be ok for when/if I ever tow it. What do you all think? Seems like a pretty good for 10,800 he wanted 11,750 to start with.
I know the slalom wakes are a little big and barefooting too. Has anyone put a barefoot plate on a 2001 to reduce wake size and shape? I know Mastercraft and Sanger make the plates to bolt right on. Does Correct Craft make one? Or is there a source to get one that would work and if so does anyone have a contact / link? Thanks for all your help~!
This appears to be a great board~!

****, were are al those mint conditions 2001 comming from?!
This boat looks nice, the tranny appears to be good, you feel normally a little resistance when turning the prop by hand. Check the floors and stringers if they are solid and not rotten. You can easily replace the tracking fins ($50,-) or bend them straight.
As for the wake, I don't know if somebody ever used a plate on a 2001. But the wake for wakeboarding is great. Forget about skying and barefooting and start wakeboarding Yellow_Flash_Colorz: . We barefooted a few times behind this boat and it does the job fine.
Try to talk him under $10k, but this seems a great deal.

    Good luck with the boat!

My boy is into wakeboarding but I am a hardcore barefooting / slalom nut. I am currently working on developing a completely custom carbonfiber waterski boot set up which may be make their debue next season on a few Pro Tour skiers. I built one for Kris LaPoint a few years back and he said it ROCKED but I did not build it strong enough to match his awesome power. and it and the ski broke at the same time.

HMMM. You wouldn't happen to be a very famous bootfitter out of
          Tahoe would you?

The boat looks to be in great shape. Trailer guides will help
          a lot.

$10,800 is on the higher side, but not unreasonable given the condition.

Nice boat. Follow the advice above and you should be fine. I had a 88 2001. Bought if for $10,000 sold it for $11,500. Like the one you are looking at, it was cherry. I miss it.

The ski wake is a tad hard and big, but you can still ski behind it. No sweat. Was 89 the first year CC went to gear reduction? My 88 was a 1:1.

Used to foot at 85' behind my 2001, wake didn't bother me at all. Definately a better footing wake than my 95 or new 211.

We slalom and barefoot behind our '88 all the time. Slalom is not bad above 34 mph, and barefooting is pretty good at 90'. I don't believe anyone has tried to fix a plate to the transom because of it's v-shape in the back. Looks like a great boat and a good price.

BTW - 1989 was the first year they went to Invertaflow exhaust where it has just one exhaust outlet. It is also the last year before they went to the new 1990 hull style. Before buying it i would try to search around for a early 1990's ski nautique for around the same price range. I know the 89's or earlier were nice boats for the day, but the newer hull design was much better to drive in my opinion, and i think you can get a 90 for around the same price. For the record I spent a lot of time driving, wakeboarding behind, and maintaining an 89 and I know some of the good and bad about them so if you want more info let me know.

Hey guys thanks for all the input. I bought the boat. Gave 10,300 for it. Did not consider it bad at all for what I need. I was going to buy a 2006 Sanger Barefoot boat but could not justify the payment every month. I stroked a check for this boat and for what I will be using it for I think it will be fine.

It turned over 243 while test driving it last night. It rocks. Has a few issues: Paid 10,300 for it. Great boat. Pretty well Mint. Has slight idle problem and some exhaust water leaking out of the Invertaflow. I think I can get these cured pretty quickly. I am going to carbon fiber the end caps of the Invertaflow. Does anyone know why these things are so week. When it sits there and idles they flex in and out. Very week in my opinion. Everything else works great except the horn. When I push the button the Volt/Amp meter goes way down so I am guessing the horn itself is bad. Does anyone know where it is located under the dash off the top of their head. I am sure I can find it. No big deal. It does idle a little rough so I put a message on the repair board. Lots of good input. I will be bringing the boat home on Tuesday and going over the whole boat before running it.

Interesting. There is a well known bootfitter in Tahoe named
Gunner. He fits the racing boots for all of the top skiers
in Tahoe, and has done boots for several Olympians. He's
been doing it for 25 years or so. Anyway, last summer, I was
in the shop and he was doing some work on some hardshell
water ski boots that Bob LaPoint was testing.
