New Gearbox for 2006 on the 210.

FOr any goofy riders who wake surf out there who are considering a new 2006 210. The factory have announced that they are putting in a new gearbox which means the rotation will be the opposite way (same as MC and everyone else)

The wake surf wave will never be the same.

For me though i am devastated, i surf a lot behind my boats and this means i am not going to buy a new 210. Why the factory could just not offer the option. Even though the new gearbox is lighter and smaller i have never had problems with my gearboxes so if it aint broke why fix it.

I hope some one can maybe shed a bit more light for me. I think i might need to go to a counsellor

And yes there is a 220 i have seen the pics i can only hope the gearboxes are left alone on this one.

I've wakesurfed behind my 210 (i'm regular foot) frontside and it is fine. Not the end of the world. You know you can always learn to ride backside too...

I'm regular footed and I ride both sides of the wake behind my 211. Riding with your back to the wake adds a new dimension and challenge to wakesurfing, which is kind of nice since it's really not much of a challenge once you do it a few times.

"gearbox"? aka v-drive? if so, who is making the '06 210 v-drive? Walters?

Now that it's official. read on.....

Compact, smaller footprint, shorter, lower and narrower, which increases useable space for additional below deck enhancements.

Allows for easier accessibility for the service technician, ultimately reducing labor charges to the customer.

Serviceability is greatly enhanced, pass through shaft design allows for ease of alignment, reduces labor charges to the customer.

Internal splash oiling, fewer moving parts without the use of external oil lines.

1.5 quart oil capacity, adequate sump volume without external oil lines.

Off the shelf Mobil 1 50wt synthetic gear oil, enhanced lubricity.

Water jacketed case, allows for quiet operation and more efficient heat transfer for the lubricating oil.

Conical cut drive/driven gears, greater gear tooth strength, helical cut increases contact ratio and offers a greater load carrying capacity with smoother operating characteristics.

Materials chosen by PCM exceed industry standards, conical gears, Timken roller bearings, Torrington needle bearings and 2500 AGM series cast iron.

Reduced installation times, as PCM V arrives pre-mounted.

            That's it....

In response to Harry_Potter's comments. That's why we love our Correct Craft Boats. Even though they are great, CC keeps making them better.

Guinea pig for PCM . . . not me !!!

Dude -- order your '06 now while you can still get a clockwise turning propeller . . . my dealer tells me that ALL CC's will be getting ordinary props soon. . .

My dealer's pissed cause he knows he's gonna lose orders to MC and everybody else with counter clockwise props. What the heck is going on at CC??

Beyond that, my walters vdrive in my SAN never caused me any problems -- why would I want to spend lots of $ on a new boat with a brand new tranny ???

Harry Potter, you can keep this new smaller tranny -- take a look at the photos & PCM manual and you'll see there is no dipstick to even check the oil level. Thats nuts. My tranny has a light on the dash so I know if its low.

When the PCM vdrive has a 5 yr track record and the bugs worked out, may be then I'll consider it . . . but I'm paying for CC dependability.

I guess the new guys at CC are just cutting corners like everybody else -- but heck, don't fix something that ain't broke !!!

What will we see next in CC -- VW diesel engines?

RE: Guinea pig for PCM . . . not me !!!

Well, if you look at what the new tranny does, it is a good thing. It creates the option to increase the interior space inside the boat dramatically. I would love for my 210 to have an extra foot of interior space. And for the 220 to have a straight across rear seat. You can accomplish both of those with the new tranny... You are correct that it is not proven to be reliable, but you have to push technology forward somehow. 'If it's not broke don't fix it' would not get us very far on a technology front.

Why would someone EVER buy a boat, or lose a sale, because of the direction of rotation of prop. That's silly.

I don't know, as a goofy footer that loves to surf I love having a Nautique. I didn't buy it for that reason it just turned out to be a bonus. I hear you guys on learning to surf the other side and all, but I want a good goofy-footer wave period. This decision would defintely make me reconsider purchasing an 06. JMO. Is it that hard to make the transmission/prop rotation an option???
Ummm, I\'ll take the REAL 210 please. Thanks.

                        cmb guinea pig . . .

Hey, you can go ahead and buy one and see how well this new PCM tranny works. I gotta put in too many hours to make $ to buy a new CC (or maybe now MC or Centurion . . .) and don't want to worry about fixing a tranny which just came out.

If you need more room, suggest a houseboat . . . just kidding

Seriously, I not sure I want my friends sitting right in front of the new tranny. Just look at the photo with the coupler and imagine it spinning 4000 revs right behind one of your friends.

                        Uh . . . . no thank you. I'll keep my old & reliable SAN . . .

Sometimes newer is not better, only cheaper.

Now, I am not saying I would buy one first year... but you have to advance the technology at some point. I like that it will allow for larger interior space without going to a giant boat from another manufacturer. When Malibu invreased the interior space in the VLX it made a world of difference on the feel of being inside it. All I want is a larger 210.

They lab test these things for thousands of hours before putting them out for purchase. There will probably be some issues during the first few model years as with anything new, but I would not worry about something coming apart during operation. How many times have you had someone riding on the deck above the engine when it was spinning 3 to 4 thousand rpms. You have a much greater rish of getting injured boarding than by a mechanical malfunction

There is nothing wrong with the new vdrive. How do you think the 1.23:1 trans got going? They had to start with it at some point right? Same thing here. There isn't an easy way to check the oil in there because you don't need to change the oil hardly at all (we are talking close to 1000 hours) so it isn't a big deal.
