    Semi-emotional attachment to your Boat?

I "probably" 8-) won't cry whenever I trade in my current boat, but just thinking about it kind of makes me sick to my stomach. First new boat, first one your kids have ridden in/behind, etc. etc.

I kind of get that feeling with cars, but usually the car is falling apart when I trade it so the new one cheers me up pretty quick.

Did anybody else have that feeling when they, for example, traded that pristine '95 ski nautique for a brand new SAN?

Is there a support group? haha

Those are some of the reasons why I will probably have my '00 Air for a long time.

Well, I had a [insert your choice here] feeling when my ex-wife drove away in my 2 year old, pristine, and paid for Ski Nautique, only two hours after we got out of court. :x

Not to worry, got over it by purchasing a new Super Air the next morning.

Things have been looking up since. Never miss the woman, but I do get a little sentimental for the boat on the one or two occasions per year that I
        see it.

I drove to arizona with my dad and brother (from Chicago) to pick up this boat 3 years ago. I learned how to ski the course, barefoot, etc behind it, as have many friends and family. I proposed to my wife on the boat last year. We celebrated the anniversary of the proposal at the same spot in the lake with a bottle of 96 Dom Perignon this year. I think of upgrading every year but this is honestly a major factor (right up there with money) that holds me back. If/when I sell, I'm going to put in the ad that I will have to interview the next owner- "You will take care of her right"...

            All,

I did interview the owner of my first Nautique. Kids cried when it went away. Still miss it. But, as a family....we are enjoying our 2004 216 Air.

P.S. Seeing the boat on the back of the car gets my 2 yr old son so excitied.....we cannot connect the boat until fully ready to go...or he makes us pay.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Our daughter is only 22 months, but we better be darn sure we're actually going to the lake if she us doing anything with the boat.

To us our "new" boat is a 97 ski nautique. However my wife grew up skiing behind a 77 ski nautique. Her dad sold that boat to my dad and I learned to slalom behind it. The boat was actually older than we are but the other day we saw one on the lake and my wife turned to me and said, "Isn't it beautiful!" It was the boat of her childhood and the first real ski boat my family had so we both have an emotional attachment.

I remember why we spent quite a bit more on the newer boat when I don't have to cross a mountain wake every time I'm in the course :-) As a side note we get a laugh out of the fact that for so long the goal was to create a smaller wake and now it has changed to the opposite. I often wonder if when a wakeboard boat meets our wake they say, "that boat has no wake at all" in a bad way. We love our new boat and we're skiing better than ever, plus in the future we'll probably have kids who learn to ski behind it and we'll have a hard time letting go of it to move to a newer 196 :-)

The people i bought my boat from (after the interview) wrote me letters asking for pictures, and sending me their old photos and reciepts etc.. for the first year or so after i bought it. I am on their Chritmas card list now.
Guess i am just as bad, a member of this board bought my previous SN and i peppered him all year with questions and requests for pictures of his progress on repairs...

When I upgrade, with in the next 3-4 years, I'm still gonna hand onto my 81. It's got too much history plus it's a 20th anniv. ed.

                    It's not leaving!

Ha Darrel...not bad at all. I was all to happy to oblige (and show off a bit!). We are loving the boat now that the repairs are completed. Picture taking days are over, not that I do not want to share, but taking pictures of "things" is not really my thing. Thanks again for the opportunity.

Only problem is that I still have to unload my '77. Any takers? Make an offer.

I have, but only briefly as the water has been far to rough when I am out. But, I really liked by brief ski. I have skiied behind 2001 models often and this boat is even better. Significantly better than my '77.

The only problem is that my wife needs a bit more practice pulling me as I usually ski with my buddies!

What I have not mentioned before is that despit all the structural work, the boat tracks phenominally. I was a bit worried that I may have repaired in some twist due to the original accident and the way I had it blocked up. Howver, my fears were unjustified and the boat is awesome and rock solid!

                            Funny to see this post.

I recently bough back my first Ski Nautique. Five yrs ago I bought the '82 2001. My girlfrined at the time convinced me to buy a Nautique over an MC becasue she grew up behind Nautiques and that is what she loved. We loved the boat and spent a lot of time and money improving her. I later asked my wife to marry me while on a ski vacation. there wasn't room on the boat to get down on one knee due to the fat sacks, but my wife saw the romance. I soon decided it was time to upgrade and I bought a Super Air. After only a year and a half the pain was too much. I had to have the old Nauti back: I called the guy that bought her from me and he agreed to sell her back. Every time I look in my back yard and see the pretty 2001 sitting on the lift I smile. Friends and family think I'm crazy, but my wife fully gets it. We will keep this boat forever.
