    Royal Purple no more!!

I just went to the auto store to get 15w40 Royal Purple to change the oil in the 196, which is what I've used in it since it's 20 hr. service. In fact, I use it in all vehicle's. They wanted $10.90 a quart. I don't think so scooter. Can't seem to find anything but Pensoil that is 15w40, nothing synthetic anyway. At least the 0w40 Mobil 1 that I'll need to use in my new muscle car, if it ever get's here, is only $5.50 per quart. **** OPEC.
    Regards to ALL!!!!!

    RE: Royal Purple no more!!

I've always used Shell Rotella, which most Wal-Marts carry. It is made for diesels, but it is 15W-40 and has the proper SJ rating, so it is fully compatible with our boats.

By the way, if you have a Target store near you, they always seem to have the best price on Mobil-1.
I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. We specializes in Nautiques and Correct Crafts, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.

If we can be of service to you, please contact us anytime!

If your looking for another good Synthetic then Amsoil also has 15W40 Synthetic for Marine use.

Listed as 15W40 Heavy duty Diesel and Marine Oil.

Last I saw it was about 5.60 a quart or 22.15 a gallon.

              Check their website at www.amsoil.com

Right out of the PCM manual:

"PCM does not recognize any advantage in using synthetic lubricants"

Save a few bucks for gas and just use good ole dino juice in it.

Thanks MikeSki!!!! I've been into the show car/ muscle car scene since I was 16 and have read and been part of hundreds of discussions on dino vs. synthetic. I feel there is a slight advantage to using synthetic, but also agree that in engines that are not abused and oil changed regularly, it probably makes little if any difference. Regards!! Mike

Cars and boats are two different applications. Cars oil runs hotter since the cooling is from an air to water radiator, boats run much cooler since it is a dirrect water cooling aplication. The oil does not see the same temperatures in a boat that COULD cause the dino oil to break down. Cars might have a slight advantage, but boats, nope.

a few weeks ago i was traveling up 17 to jax and i drove through your town. what the heck is that little green shack on the left? do you know the one? right as you get into satsuma, looks like a welcoming hut aimed to make sure you never return! Yellow_Flash_Colorz: also, i pulled up beside a guy with an old 2001. it was in great shape. if i remember correctly, which i rarely do, it was the blue color scheme. we're getting ready (keep your eyes, i mean fingers crossed) to redo ours from the blue rainbows to red, white and black color scheme.
anyways, thought of you when i saw the back woods gator-sacrificing witch craft hut!
maybe we'll bump into you (women drivers!) next time we're passing through!
i do love that route from west orlando to jax, though! it takes longer than i4 and 95, but its so much funner and easier to talk your way out of a ticket! Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

Which green shack?? That's all there is in Satsuma. Yellow_Flash_Colorz: I know the one you're talking, but don't recall what it is. The one on the right was an adult book store for about 6 month's until the Southern Baptists ran 'em outa town. You passed the lake where we ski in Crescent City, so next time you're passing through, let me know. All the pulls you can stand and lunch is on me!!

we might take you up on it! i do love that drive!
you preppin' for the hurricane this weekend? we're already getting wind and driving rain here in orlando. too bad they're starting on my new roof next week! Yellow_Flash_Colorz:
                            oh well.
i had one more question for you. can you get to your area from lake george? we went camping a few months back on hontoon island with our daughters and took a trip up the river to lake george and went back into the glen. it was gorgeous, but you'd have to be crazy to ski on that river with all of the friggin' HUGE gators we saw! Yellow_Flash_Colorz: and i was also suprised to see so many houseboats. anyways, from where we were to where we got, i didn't realize how close to st. john's county we were! it shore is fun sight seein', but i wouldn't be caught dead in anything but the f-f-f-f-frigid spring water for fear of gettin' gobbled up by one of those gators looking for his next snack!!! just seeing them made my heart stop!

I LIVE on the river in East Palatka, and won't ski in the river for several reasons. For instance, the lady who died last week from contracting an infection from the algae bloom in the river while on a Sea Doo. You probably heard about that. Also too many unknown's like piece's of dock floating just below the surface, crab traps in my area are bad, GP, Seminole Electric and several other industrail plants dump into the river as well. Gator's don't bother me, you can see them because they glow. Yellow_Flash_Colorz: Lake Stella is a 3 spring fed lake directly across from Lake George. It's crystal clear, about 21 ft deep over most of the lake. Nicest lake in our county, and even the people who live there hardly use it. Three weeks of the year we stay at a friends home on Lake Conway off Hoffner Ave., about 2 miles from CC off of Orange Ave. I hope the storm is minimal my friend. Mike
