Cool. Just like other things, CC waits until the unit is perfected.

      RE: 2006 Throttle Info

      Do I understand this correctly?

There is still a small gas cable from the throttle actuator to a potentiometer. And that a standard PerfectPass with the standard servo can be connected to this throttle cable?

I agree, what is the point.

I can see a benifit in engines that have no mechanical throttle plate, such as diesel engines and jet engines, or in applications where there is limited room for a throtle cable such as tightly packed sports car engines, but on a gas boat engine.

Is there not still a need for a plate to restrict the air flow onto the engine? Does this not mean that there will be a need for yet one more servo to fail?

My truck has a drive by wire throtle, but then again it is diesel, and engine speed is a facotr of how much fuel goes in, and there is no need to regulate the amount of air that goes in, so no throtle plate. Great application of drive by wire, but in a boat.

            I don't see the benifit.

Sounds to me like a complicated and expensive to repair solution in search of a problem. Especially in light of the issues with drive by wire MasterCrafts this year. (I know it is supposed to be a perfectpass problem, but why create the situation in the first place)

I guess this is one of those answers to another companies "competitive advantages".

So, if I read this correctly, we have 1) cable to 2) pot to 3) wire to 4) servo to 5) cable/PP to 6) throttle body?

Glad I bought an 05... I really don't like the idea of a potentiometer in a marine environment controlling the speed of my boat. Of course I didn't ever think drive-by-wire was ever an advantage regardless of what the other mfgs. claim. Just more stuff to break.

Ok, I understand the advantages in a car that I suppose could translate to a boat, but CC did not implement the system to take advantage of the advantages (or whatever). I have a V12 engine in one of my cars that has two ignition systems and fuel systems that must work in concert with each other, so a TBW makes good sense. Also, the cruise control can take advantage of directly controlling the TBW in a car. TBW can also help with traction control in modern cars and trucks.

So, I can see how TBW could help with perfect pass in a boat, but CC (or PCM) did not seem to design the TBW in such a way to make this possible. Maybe this is the first step and PP and TBW integration is coming? Who knows, just seems like a waste at this point and time...until the other manufacturers catch up.

My dealer is telling me the PCM, Perfect Pass, and CC all worked on getting this done so everything would work well together. I don't have a doubt this will be up to CC standards. I can't wait to drive a boat with it.

                      MEFI 5

Here is what I understand about this issue: General Motors has gone to the MEFI 5 system and this is required to work with that. The older (MEFI4) could have been used but GM wanted big bucks to change the new for the old.

                        RE: MEFI 5

But why a semi TBW? So why still the need for a small mechanical cable to a potentiometer. And why is the perfectpass servo still there?
As far as I can see you only need 1 actuator with a built-in potentiometer. With this actuator the throttle at the helm and the perfectpass would work. I would say then perfectpass and PCM would work together. Now they just rebuilt the TBW-system in a way to work with the 10year old perfectpass setup.
