First 220 on the west side

Got notice from a buddy at WCCC that the first 220 arrived on the west coast. This one is not slated for any dealer but, it appears to be a demo/show boat.

From his description it's Black hull with Yellow (honey bee) Tower is huge, would require a huge garage door. Looks like there is still bugs to be worked out.

Sounds like the same one that's been making the rounds around the country. The tower folds down pretty low (I know, I folded it myself), so I don't think it would require that big of a garage door. That tower is HEAVY though!

There are only two made. The one headed your way is the one that was in N. Carolina. They are building one a week right now and will up production soon. That boat is headed to the INT Nationals.

skinautique, you go boy! Got to see the yellow 220 once. Pretty nice w/ a lot of storage. Did it already make a stop in Wisconsin (or somewhere in the midwest) for some amateur event?

Hey Brian , what's shakin! Can't say I don't like the look of the 220. But I would need to see it in a silver and black motif. If they want to make a quick sale, they better get the gelcoaters out, onyx and silver cloud please.

The 220 was at the reunion today and I had the opportunity to ride in it. Even though it looks very big on the trailer it didn't see that big on the water. The interior appointments are very nice, I think this boat will attract families going from a nice runabout like a Cobalt or SeaRay that want to step up thier wakeboarding. Like all boats there are of course a few things that I did not like but I won't go into them. The wakeplate tunnel appeared to be slightly deeper than the one on my 211 and seemed to make a significant difference on the water. Like my 211 the difference between modes was not so much the wake size but more the wake shape. There are lots of things going on underneath the 220, looks like their design team has worked very hard to get a large boat perform like a much smaller boat. I took a bunch of pictures, too many to post, if you want to see something I might have it pictured.

I don't really like to judge wakes though pictures but they are helpful. Until I ride and kick a couple jumps behind a wake I try not to make any judgements. With that said I saw a very good sized wake that looked to be well shaped. There are lots of things going on underneath this boat, I wish it was not black on the bottom so my hull shots would have shown more, maybe that was their intention. Here is one picture from pretty far out with the boat running slightly faster than boarding speeds with empty ballast and about 1/3 of a tank of fuel, likely the wake gate was in cruise mode. Sorry I didn't have my telefoto lens.

Looks like Mike T. from wakeworld was able to get behind the steering wheel... Here's his post from wakeworld:

Just got back and what a HOOT. Meet some great people and saw some really nice boats! Best of all, I got to drive the new 220. We were the last ones to demo and Jim Hammer took us out. He took us around the Marine World lake and showed us all the cool features and then on the way back in ask if I wanted to drive. I all most tripped over myself getting to the drivers seat fast enough. Not only did I get a 20 minute drive, I drove with the ballast empty, full, port side full for surfing, wake gate up and down. Through my Nautique goggles, that boat is the BOMB! Even better, when we got back to the dock, a bunch of the staff loaded in the boat to take one of Marine World wakeboarders for a set. HOLY CRAP-that guy was throwing raleys 12-15' high and 20 feet out and just to mix it up a huge hoochie, tantrum, crow mobe, and a 5 off the double up. Great day and totally stoked!!!

I got pictures of the wake from inside the boat on my friends camera. I'll have to grab it from him tomorrow. The factory reps did tell me that this boat is not going to be their core wakeboard boat. The 210 is still king of the wake and judging from my ride in the 220, he was right. The wake looked rampy and not nearly as defined and steep as the 210. The die-hard wakeboarders will probably pass on this boat in favor of the 210. One thing I am still trying to find out is if this boat will fit in a standard garage with the tower folded. I'm thinking it won't and that's the impression I got from a Florida rep.

Well, now I'm confused. In the dealer's book the first page for the 220 reads:

"The All-New Super Air Nautique 220. A work of art from every angle. Introduced to you as the "Core Wakeboard" boat for the 2006 model year..."

This was the same brochure that Jeff had on the front page for a little while, but now is not there (probably at CC's request). Another reason I question your post is why would CC go to the lengths to specifically alter their branding so the 220 exclusively receives the established "Super Air Nautique" name. The 210 (not degrading it in any way) no longer bears the SAN name and is now the Air 210 (as discussed in detail in another thread). From what I've heard this IS the core wakeboard boat. Yes, the wake is rampy-er, but wakeboarding is progressing away from the abrupt, steep wake of the 210. Don't get me wrong, it's a sick wake that can satisfy the most skilled riders, BUT, pro-riders are riding longer ropes, faster speeds, more weight and a little more ramp caters to that style of riding. Look at Shaun Murray, Danny Harf, Shawn Watson and more, all riding the 226 right now, and killing it! I believe, IMHO, the 220 is CC's new core wakeboard boat...a blend of the 210/226/211, ready for the further progression of wakeboarding as a sport.

I imagine CC is going to push the 220 pretty hard just like all the other manufacturers who are going bigger. This makes complete sense from a marketing standpoint.

Based on my personal taste, I prefer the 210 at this time, but that could change in a few years. I was only expressing my opinion and those of the people I spoke with.

I can't deny or confirm that the pros you mentioned above are riding the bigger boats, but I image it's a matter of what they were "persuaded" to use if that is in fact true. I'm sure CC will sell more 210s than 220s or any other boat in thier line up for the next few years until the market conditions people to go to the 220. I personally would rather wait a few years to make sure they work out the kinks first.
