    awake4air,

I don't work at CC, but I don't think that CC markets boats from the same angles as others. I'm sure they will market the 220 heavily as it is a new and exciting entry. However . . . .

MasterCraft makes about twice as many boats per year as CC and their boats cost as much or more than CC. They need to market heavily to ensure they move the boats. Most other boat manufacturers market against CC and Mastercraft. They are trying to come up with features or price points that will persuade the consumer not to go CC or MC.

CC makes only about 2200 boats per year. They generally sell them all. When the other manufacturers come up with a boat which impacts their market they need to respond. In this case, bigger boats are impacting the market, and CC must and has responded (211, 226, and 220). On this site, we often see posts that say "I don't know why CC hasn't done X yet." IMO opinion there are two reasons 1) you don't make significant and costly changes as long as you can sell all the boats your make and 2) CC is usually focused on performance first and tries not to introduce a product until it meets their quality and performance standards.

That's not to say that CC doesn't innovate. They came up with towers, built in ballast, and many other innovations. However, when it comes to producing a whole new boat line, those are very expensive changes, and you generally don't do it until business dictates.

If there is a boat CC "pushes" I think it is the closed bow 196. They take a lot of pride in the heritage of their top of the line ski boat. The market for these boats is not huge any longer. They'll only make a couple hundred this year. But CC wants to maintain its place as the first and best comp ski boat so they continue to push the boat hard.

My completely unsupported observations and $.02 :>)

Very informative. I agree especially with the observations on the 196. I'm not sure whether its the chicken or the egg, but keep in mind also that many skiers who own CC product are hardcore closed bow guys.
