    Shame on You!

This post is directed to the specific few that read my post in the Off Topic section entitled, "Marina Donates to Katrina Victims".

A marina owner is donating all his gas sales revenue to the Katrina victims. I don’t know how much money that translates to, but at $4/gal, I myself will contribute hundreds of dollars before the end of the season. So I figure he's dishing out several thousand dollars, maybe over ten.

What I don't understand is that nobody had anything nice to say about this? How can that be? Aren't you the same guys that immediately congratulate a fellow member when he/she buys a new boat? You are even kind enough to compliment the color combo when even if you don't really like it. But you don’t have the time of day to write something nice about someone donating money to people in need? :???:

How much gas did you use this past weekend? How much does your tow vehicle use daily? One might argue that your whole summer lifestyle is an energy abuse – mine is.

If you're going to give respect to the guy buying a boat, you can at least give respect to the guy supplying the gas. What if Gerard decided to donate the gas instead of the cash? Wouldn't that be something? You just bought a $50,000 boat and there's no gas to put in it!

    Shame on you :!:

      RE: Shame on You!

I am quite sure we have all been hit from many angles concerning this topic, at work, church, school,on the street, and now on PlanetNautique.com. It's great to do good things for people, but to slap good people in the faces with it is doing no good. In fact, it only detours from the cause.

We all are praying for the victims of the tragedy and many have contributed in one way or another. However, in cases such as this one there never seems to be enough money or time. No amount of either will replace the lives and memiors lost.

As for me, I will say a prayer and keep working to pay taxes to the government that will ultimately fund longterm relief. I will support those working to help in whatever food drive, fund raising event, or prayer circle that comes along and I will do it without hopes of recognition.

ABSOLUTELY! it is that kind of belief that shows your goodness. you're not helping these people to get an "atta boy" or to further yourself. you're doing it because you can. you have the means and you have the desire to help others who need the help.

          GOD BLESS YOU!

I've been kinda out of the loop the past week or so due to an overwhelming amount of school work and stuff... but Red, I'm kinda confused about why you'd go off on this. Have you not read the "I CAN'T AFFORD TO SKI" thread?

Despite what the topic may lead you to believe, it's not about selfish CC owners who only care about their precious lake time.

Perhaps I've been misunderstood me. I did read I Can't Afford...

I'm not suggesting that anyone has been indefferent or unsympathetic to those affected by Katrina. The thread you mention is in fact a tribute to the understanding and generosity of PN members. Which is exactly why I was somewhat surprised that no one had anything nice to say about the marina's donation.

In particular, I find it interesting that a lot of people take the time to say "nice boat" but don;t make the effort to give this guy any recognition. As a company in an industry that has taken a lot of flack of price gauging recently, I think knowing that all procedes are being donated is a noble thing. It made me feel good about buying my gas there. As it turns out, the owner donated over $5000 in one day. I think that is deserving of some recognition.

Furthermore, do you think the guy that posts a picture of his new boat would be a little disappointed if no one posted anything at all? You don't think he's looking for a little positive recognition?

Is the owner of the gas station a member on this site? As far as I know, he's not so I don't see how he would get any recognition by us posting. Obviously if someone posts a picture of their boat I'd reply because I know they'd see it. Again, if he is a member and I knew I probably would have said something.

It is a very generous gesture on the part of the Marina owner. If I lived in that area, I'd probably get my gas from him as well. I think Hollywood hit it on the head. I'm sure all of of us who read Redelf's original post, thought to ourselve "cool," I know I did. But I took it as a really cool news item and not as something I could repsond to. I'm sure no one meant any offense to Redelf or the Marina owner.

One thing I really like about this site is that for the most part people maintain a certain professionalism or class when dealing with one another. This thread is a good example of that premise.

                      Thank you ladies and gentlemen.

I have been avoiding posting here but it seems like this one won't die so I will go ahead and throw in my 2 cents.

I kind of knee jerked when I read this post entitled "Shame on you" as somebody saying shame on me. Now I do spend a fair amount of time on this board but I rarely check the off subject topics since I am not really that interested in college sports and other issues typically posted in that section. So, when I read "shame on me" in the general discussion area I felt somewhat slighted, as that was the first of my knowledge of the marina donating gas proceeds. Now, this is after I just dropped a grand to help out those in need who were basically left out in the cold to die by FEMA.

If somebody wants to donate in some form or another that's great. I donated twice, once by paying my taxes, again by sending money to the red cross (maybe a third by paying increased insurance rates). I expect nothing in return, only my own satisfaction that I may have helped somebody in need.

Good for this marina, they will be thanked by increased business, gas sales (at least I am guessing that's why they put up a sign stating their actions), or tax deductions. I am sure they don't know I exist and they don't need/expect my thanks.

Mikeski I think even though the thread itself is still here, I think the initial thought of it is gone... I think me and AirNautique211 we're just joking about the people on the site at times and how, like he said, the members of this site remain to stay professional.

I've met redelf once or twice and yeah, he can be an idiot, but I've gotta live with that and I'm sure my reason for trying to stay out of this thread was far from yours... I think the site should relize how that this post started with a feeling of negative tension, to say the least, and now it has ended up with fun jokes about ourselfs. I think that's pretty cool how we can make that happen... Only PlanetNautique...
