I have read many posts here about the octane requirements for the 330 excaliber. Some say 89, some say 87. With gas prices where they are, everybit helps. I emailed PCM today and got a response from TJ Dellinger, our new "Watersports Consierge (sp?) and she indicated that the 330 is calibrated to run 87 octane.

on a side note, anyone esle get their package in the mail with the little PCM cooler? I thought that was a real nice gesture.

Yeah, oddly enough the sticker on the engine says that it should use 89 octane, but all the manuals say 87. I did a similar check with PCM and got the same response. I've never run anything but 87, and have never had a problem.

No cooler for me. Did they just randomly send that to you? I want one...

I have my membership to the PCM team (or whatever they call the program) and my cozy cooler too. It was a nice gesture but I doubt I will use it for anything.

I've used 87 octane (per the manual) for all of the 40 hours that I now have on my 2005.

I did receive the cooler bag in the mail, as well.

I guess, there is an "A" list, and a "B" list at ol PCM. It's a 6pack soft cooler, that will carry my sandwich. I will consider myself privledged.

I have been putting in 89/91 in my boat because I also read "89" , but not anymore.

I don't know how I got on the list, it just showed up in the mail. I emailed TJ twice and got responses right away, cudo's to PCM. I think they are unhappy losing thier JD Powers award to Indamar, and want it back. This is a good start!

I assume the GT40 is still limited to 89, except in dire circumstances? I'd love some piece of mind to run low-grade.

I have the GT 40 and usually run 87. I've run both, and never noticed a difference.

I've been running my GT 40 on 87 since I picked it up. That was the recommendation that I received and never considered anything else.

Just to chime in.... I use 87 octane in my sv211 excalibur with no noticeable problems.. I am sitting with 106 hrs on the engine since May and she seems to purr just fine... I have filled her up at the marina once or twice which is 92 Marine gas (stabilizer in the gas--- Like I need that in a gas guzzler!). Our Marine gas is typically 50 to 70 cents/gal above the pump price! Of course, at 3.29/gal... I'm glad summer is almost over!

Hey Socbum, where did you get the recommendation to use 87 for your GT40? The only reason I try to use 89 is my manual specifically states to "use any good grade of automovie regular or premium gasoline with a minimum average octane rating of 89. An 87 average octane gasoline may be used if 89 is not available."

I always figured that meant if you can't get 89 at a marina, you probably won't do damage to the engine if you run 87. Maybe it means you can run 87 all the time?

The subject of the sticker suggesting 89 and the manual 87 octane was brought up on this thread. The response received from PCM was posted by PN Member Scooby. It reads: "All the engines we produce are built to run on standard 87 grade fuels. The decals have been changed to reflect this."

I think the cooler and membership to the PCM club is being sent to new boat owners only. It's probably some type of marketing campaign that PCM is working on. Maybe they will work their way down to earlier boats but they will probably have to have the owners' information on record (warranty card for example).
