New SV211 Demo comments

I just posted another topic about comparing a 206 and a 216.....but I thought I would also shoot out some thoughts from a SV211 that we demoed two weekends ago.

First of all....it was an awesome boat. Roomy and comfy and awesome wake (for me anyway...I have a 99 Sport). The storage was incredible. The craftsmanship was superb (like all CC). And as a wakeboard/recreational boat...it was about as good as I could want.

However...the SV211 slalom wake was a bit harsher than I thought it would be (and yes we had the plate thingy in the correct posistion). I have seen several reviews that talk about the slalom wake being very good....but to me...the SV211 is definetly a wakeboard boat trying it's best to be a ski boat....but it's just not quite there. The wake size at 34 mph seemed about the same size as my Sport, but it was much more firmer and rampy compared to my '99 Sport. And at 30 or 31 mph....like my wife and my friends wife slalom at.....it was like a wall. Don't get me wrong...I know it's a bigger boat and should have a larger wake...but I had gotten the impression that it wouldn't have those type of "big" boat issues.

Another note: This boat had the 310 hp motor. It seemed, to all of us that drove it, that it did not have enough power for that sized boat....seemed under powered when pulling up a slalom skier with 5 people in the boat. When the skier was about to finally push up and you were wanting to punch the power a bit.....you realize that you were already at full throttle. Anybody else felt that....or do most SV211's have the larger engines?

Do you mean the Excalibur 330 HP? CC hasn't sold a 310 HP engine for years...

Yes there is a smaller engine offered in the 211. I have the Excalibur 330 hp and it does just fine. I also have the 644 prop (Team Prop). If you were testing a sig edition, which it sounds like you were with the smaller motor you would not have the harder pulling prop as well.

I cannot even imagine a 211 with the smaller motor, I feel that mine with the 330 EX is borderline underpowered, and I am not convinced that the ZR6 is the answer. Keep in mind that previous boat was a 196 with GT-40, capable of pulling stumps out of the lake. My opinion is that PCM needs to develop a high torque 383 stroker motor for the larger Correct Craft boats.

The 211 hull is very sensitive and responds like crazy to small weight changes. The waterskiing wake is easily destroyed if there is a little extra weight in the wrong place. I can feel the difference in the wake when the tanks start autofilling themselves even before the gauges register (04-05 flow-rite valves). The wake is not too bad if the boat is lightly loaded and running flat. As soon as one side gets loaded more than the other all bets are off, the low side quickly develops a rock solid wall that will knock you on your face if you are not paying attention.

I pay lots of attention to the wake when pulling skiers. If it doesn't look right I move passengers around the boat until it's even. Most skiers don't find my wake that unmanageable even at 28-32mph. All this said, the wake is not much better/worse than most 10+ year old inboards, worse than most recent ski boats.

I might have gotten the wrong engine size.....sorry...but my feeling was similar to Mikeski...it was borderline underpowered.

Also....we moved folks around in the boat quite a bit. We had one adult (260 lbs) two adults (around 125) and two boys (around 100 lbs each). We switched drivers, moved folks from front to back and to the floor......but couldn't get the wake to soften.

My 211 330 TE came with the Acme 644 prop and it wasnt enough to get it to plane quickly with factory 730lbs + 1300lbs 2ndary ballast system + 5 people. I put on the Acme 856 and all is well now. It runs about 3200-3300 RPM at 23mph with above configuration. I think the 644 is more an all around prop to let you get to skiing speeds as well as wakeboard with the factory ballast. If you want to step it up and put in more ballast you will need to go to the 856 or live with slow performance out of the hole. If i would have got the 375hp engine i could have probably stayed with the 644.

Hey Baldspalsh you sound like me. I owned a '98 Sport and traded this year for an '05 SV211 TE. I had th' GT 40 in my Sport and it would go !!! Easy on the gas too..............The 211 is a great boat also. Yeah, it's more of a wake boat than ski. We use to foot, ski and wake behind the Sport. The SV is really a different boat all together........I needed more room, better wake for boarding, and newer boat. The SV211 fit the bill. I have 50hrs. on the boat and my family loves it. Fit and finish is great. Only complaint is the ballast tanks fill on their own. Power is fine..........seat of th' pants it does feel as fast as my old Sport. !,000lbs. difference in wt. Great Boat..............both of 'em

belsam......sounds like you are loving life with the SV211. One thing to mention....I am not looking to upgrade. My 99 Sport is still "new" to me....and my checking account is hoping that the boat stays "new" to me for quite a while. It's my friend that looking.

But....we test drove a 206 and a 216 yesterday. Absolutely fantastic boats....both of them. I think he is going for the 216 and I would agree. I have another topic going about that test...I'll post more info over there.
