trailer brakes

on a 210 team, assuming of course that it is on a tandem trailer, do any of you know if it is law in canada to have four wheel brakes? the malibu on an smp trailer that i traded in did and i have told my dealer that (it had 4 brakes) and i assumed that the new eagle trailer would also. now i am getting the "thats extra" runaround. personnally i wouldn't let almost 5000 pounds of combined boat and trailer weight behind me not have all the axles braking. what is your opinion. also, any opinion on eagle trailers?

Not a huge fan of Eagles unless there is a 197_ tandem/triple rig Hydrodyne sitting on one. Inboards look goofy on them and I just prefer the simplicity and low profile of the A-frame Ramlin.

My tandem axle trailer only has brakes on one axle, and it performed flawlessly when I had to panic brake once when a deer jumped out in front of me. I don't think brakes on only one axle is an issue.

I have My 206 on an eagle with tandem axles and it came with (4) discs which was a pleasant suprise, it stops very well and runs straight. The trailer uses a 5-flat plug, the 5th wire is for the actuater which prevents brake activation while reversing. My dealer said they could match any Nautique color and also included "Nautique" graphics. They also gave me the option of the traditional carpeted stops or per thier recommendation, a rubber stop like you would see on an I/O trailer. The rubber stop on my trailer is a problem if you are on a steep launch, the bow pin tape met the rubber and tore the tape up a bit. I will go back to the traditional stop on the next one. I do think the Eagle appears to be a much stronger trailer then the Ram-Lin when you put one next to the other.

I pulled the brakes off my tandem trailer. I just got tired of all the problems with them. I quess one of these days I might add new disks to it, but my superduty does a fine job stopping the trailer even in panic situations. Now I would never tow the boat and trailer without brakes in a smaller truck or suv.

Hollywood, to your point, that's a tough comparison, a Hydrodyne triple rig look's awesome on just about any trailer.

There's no brakes on my trailer for my 81. I have 4 wheel disk on the truck though, so even in a jam the braking hasn't ever been an option. I know my boat is lighter than all the newer stuff, but the trailer is heavier by a little.

Our '88 trailer is very annoying, the breaks don't work but the coupler surge still slams in and out, not to mention the grinding hubs...

That does not sound too good, you may want to think about overhauling that before it leaves you hangin some place.

what i am trying to find out is it common to have four or two wheel discs on a tandem trailer. what do you have? is four necessary? obviously it is better, but is it a hazzard without them (4)?

Mine stops very well with discs on the front only. Even when towing with my old Grand Cherokee, I hardly ever worried about being able to stop.
