    Paragon...build your own?

OK..looks like finding an original paragon is limited at best..so why not build your own?

The 1993 an later boats has NO wood in their construction. Can anyone advise as to how CC applied the mahogany to the decks?...sounds like it was through bolted to battens under the deck and gunwales, pehaps bedded in epoxy or sikaflex (3M 5200) and then plugged like a traditional wooden boat. Since the floors were composite (no wood) was the teak epoxied to the factory floor? Any help would be appreciated.I would imagine that one could keep the weight gain to less than 350 lbs.

Seems like a good wooden boat builder could replicate a Paragon from a decent '93-'94 hull for less than what it would cost to find one of the original 10 or 11 hulls? ($35K+/-)

Anyone think original CC upholstery for a Paragon would be available.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

    No I am not crazy!

        Newshuz,

The following features were on my Paragon:
Wood decks and windshield frame, teak floor, 300hp pro boss, chromed out motor, different interior, upgraded stereo and lifting rings and similar pieces were finished gold in color.

I believe the interior was the same as a typical 93 except it was done using different material and pleats. I attached a couple photos, if you decide to carry on with your project drop me a note and I can send you all the photos I have of mine.

        Good Luck!

        Chris

          Chris:

Thanks for the pix..I would really appreciate any photos you could provide. You can email me at newshuz@hotmail.com. Looks like you had one (if not the only) of the red hulls. All the others I have seen were green.

          Thanks

The Paragon was a very cool boat, I sold it last year but had a lot of great years with it, no question it attracted a lot of attention wherever we took it. It was always my favorite to get compliments from M/C or Malibu owners though. I saw a green Paragon for the first time last year at Guy's Marine in MI, the interior was a nice Forest Green color but the hull was more of a Christmas green, not like what I would have thought from photos I had seen. It was my understanding that only 1 Paragon was done in Burgandy so it was truly a one-of-a-kind. The Burgandy worked well with the Mahogany because it gave the illusion that the entire boat was wood.

NewShuz, I will gather and email all that I have and I will also post them in show my boat as well. I don't know what your budget is but have you considered using a newer hull? If you plan on skiing with it, as I did, the newer hulls are much better for slalom and barefoot and of course fuel injection as also a major plus.

                Chris

                    newshuz,
I've quite often dreamed of doing this to my '94!!! I love wooden boats, and when I saw a paragon at the boat show in '94, and I was hooked!
Make sure you keep us up to date if you take on the project.
I always recomend the forums at http://www.guillemot-kayaks.com/ for people looking at working with epoxy & teak. The guys over there are a wealth of knowledge about working with epoxy with a variety of woods & conditions, and are super helpfull.
Good luck if you choose to try this project!
