yes they are hydrolocking. Sorry for the mis wording. Guys, this info has just come up to PCM within the past few days so that is why there is no solution YET. I think SSS just wanted to be nice and give the heads up to everyone right away.

I have a ZR6 in my 196 and my answer is simple.

      Overstate the obvious.
The bilge pump in my boat requires that the dash switch be in the on position. When in the on position the pump cycles every 2 minutes (not sure about the time) and pumps out what ever water is in the bilge, if there is none it goes into a sleep mode for another two minutes to keep the pump from excessive dry running.

Hardwire the bilge pump. I just took care of any warranty questions that could come up because of water in the intake, besides sinking.

From CC/PCM standpoint that would be my answer as well. If a company gets to a warranty claim they have failed. A shield might work and might not. Unless I am looking to pin failures on the customer, knowing that water in the bilge is the root cause of the failures that should be the point of attack.

I am sure that PCM and CC will come up with a suitable solution for this problem. Both are fine companies and have a history of customer satisfaction and "going the extra mile".

So suppose this did happen to your boat, and you went into your dealer and they said they weren't going to do anything about it? They say no and then you do what?
Well, now that I know this issue has just arisen, I would have to understand that CC did not know of the issue before hand where I would have hoped it have been printed in a manual or found some other way to make the customer aware.

That being said, I agree with whoever said that they should not blame the customer 100%. After all, just becaues they didn't know about it doesn't make it their responsibity? I'd hope not. It's still their boat and it's got their name on it and if they want to be considered the best in my books then they have to honor their gray zone in their warantee and if that means giving into the customer than so be it.

So you ask what would I specifically do? If my dealer said they wouldn't cover it under warantee, my dealer I think would support me calling and talking to our regional manager, and then take it down to Orlando where we've talked with a couple people down there that we know. This wouldn't be the first time we've done this regarding warantee so it'd be nothing new...

I hope they get a fix fast. This is a nasty problem on a craft that is designed to be used in the water. I know its the owner's responsibility to keep the bilge dry. But, we all know that water gets in the bilge from time to time--its normal. But is it reasonable to expect such dire consequences from a normal, expected event? I don't think so. I think there is alot of gray area to a denied warranty claim in this situation.

I would have to check but does the manual state that water cannot reach a certain point in the bilge? Does the manual state what can happen as a result of water above that point?

I would think that CC would honor the warranty request on a case like this, they are a standup company and this is clearly an unforeseen situation. I'll go back to my earlier post. Why not wire the bilge pump so it is on anytime the ignition is on?
