    Any Advice Guys?!!

I have a buddy with a 27' Baja that has a black like mildew stain all around the rub rail. We've tried mineral spirits, orange clean, simple green and nothing even touches it. Any of you doc's got and R/X for this ailment?
    Thank You guys!!! Mike

My dealer suggested carb cleaner for my MC and it worked great. You have to be real carefull as it is a bit nasty.

Wow, I'd be real hesitant to use carb cleaner. That stuff will mess things up if you're not REAL careful.

Acetone works very well on a rubrail. But again be careful not to get it on the fiberglass. I had some stains that nothing else would get off and acetone worked, first try.

That was the first thing I thought of, but was afraid it would damage the rubber. Will it the shine return and stay after reapplying 303 or the like?

I used acetone to clean and then 303 afterwards on my rubrail and it worked very well.

I used it to clean my rubrail and I didn't notice any damage to the rubber at all, I didn't 303 mine when I was done so I can't speak to that.

& don't worry about acetone on the gel; it's been used for years!

I am building a small fiberglass boat, and between each layer of fiberglass, I wipe the entire thing down with acetone to get a nice clean surface for the next layer to adhear to.

Just don't leave a rag soked in acetone laying on anything, as it will eat thru lots of stuff if left in contact too long.

I'm not a chemical expert, but I believe gelcoat reacts to acetone differently than
fiberglass. As I understand it, acetone on fiberglass will be slightly tacky. Acetone on
gelcoat does not penetrate the surface (although the acetone will take your pinstripes
and stickers off if you are not careful).

Thanks for all the responses guys. I'm been around lacquer thinner (acetone) all my life, I just needed your input on it's reaction to the rubrail for my buddy. My rubrail can't get wet, there's too much 303 on that sucker. Yellow_Flash_Colorz: THANK YOU ALL!!!

Have you tried the Mr Clean Pads? I know it sounds crazy! I sometimes get white marks from the trailer guides and used to use acetone. The Pads take it right off. These things are amazing.
