It's to cold when you are standing on the dock fully kitted out ready to go, with the boat engine on tick over nicely warmed up, you look around.............. and you're all alone.
Your driver has done a runner back to the nice warm club house and is refusing to come out!

When your bindings are too hard to get into.

The name thing is probably some trick. Either other language or like reverse spelling. Give up on it, like he said it's probably really lame anyways.

LOL! But you know, that's really not that suprising. hehe.

I'm not real sure about exact temps... but a yr or 2 ago we went out in October. In Oklahoma the avg. air temp is in the 50s in Oct. Although last spring I took the boat out in April when I had put it back together for the spring and I got one of my friends to ski. (More or less the guinny pig!)That water had to have been in the 40s.

Air temp 33 deg. when launching the boat at 6am. Water temp about 60 deg. After I finished riding, there was ice on the side of the boat and on some of the crevices in the boot. Brain freeze not too bad for riding but we could not ski. Major headache. There was also a skim of frost on the dock when we launched. That was the last time out this year. Bummer.

I've discovered Abundiga909 is just a nick name, and he is probably the illegitamit son of Gary "Bababooey909" Dell Abate from the Howard Stern show. You know, that little radio show from the colder side of the country on the "other coast".

I have dusted off the drysuit for the next ski weekend as its only 80 at the river and water temps have probably plummeted to low to mid 60s.

LOL! That is a good one Darrel, but "plummeted to the mid-60's?!?" That is when we are getting OUT of our wetsuit up here in Seattle!

Went out yesterday on the St. Croix River in Stillwater, MN

Water temp 46 and air temp 50. And that was before the wind and rain picked up.

                    Todda,

Maybe we Northwesterners are tougher (more likely just crazy). When I was in High School just a little north of you (in Bellingham) we used to ski on New Year's Day - and this was without wetsuits! The thing that determined how long the run lasted was how long you could hold on (usually about 5 minutes) The hands were the first thing to go. We kept a pot of hot water on the dock to pour into the bindings so the rubber would be soft enough to get our feet into. Somewhere (I haven't seen it for years) there's a photo of me water skiing on Lake Whatcom with snow on the ground in the background. Yikes!

My kids would say "that's freakin' cold". I just say you must have been nuts - "freakin'" nuts!

I fell through the ice on the Wabash River while hunting ducks in late December - twice - 1 year a part, in the same place. Now that is just stupid.

I can appreciate skiing in the Northwest. In the mid-90's I lived in Bellevue, WA and accomplished something that I consider quite unique - THE TRIFECTA (mid-Dec). We water skied in the morning (Lake Sammamish w/semi-dry suits), played eighteen holes of golf in the afternoon, and snow skied in the evening (@ the pass). I call that a good day!

Naw that was just an accident. I got in the water on purpose!

I always wanted to do that! (Well not the golf part, since I'm not a golfer.) Mt. Baker (where I always skiid growing up) often has snow well into May, so it wouldn't be too difficult.

Kanski, yeah, it gets pretty chilly up there north near Bellingham. Most of the time, out on Lk Stevens, we have to remind ourselves "why" we are the only one's out on the lake. As cold as it does get sometimes, man, it is just beautiful out there on a crisp morning. SNwanabe, The TRIFECTA sounds fun! A few years ago we did a "Ski-to-Ski" day, where we hit Samamish in the morning, and then drove over to Stevens pass to ski the evening, more of a DuFecta!

SNwanabe, I can think of 1 thing that might be missing in your "good day". And, knowing you, I am sure you fit that in somewhere.
