    Signature Edition or Limited Edition?

Considering a used 2005 196 or 206. I saw a 206 with PP, tower, Clarion, PCM 5.7L Excalibur, etc.. My reservation is I have always been interested in the Limited package. Does the limited keyless system warrant the added cost? Is the keyless more of a nuisance than it is worth?

I have a 2005,196 Limited it's my 4th boat that I've owned also the fanciest and the Limited Package is pretty nice, the keyless is a nice feature I do like it, but the limited also includes recessed grab handles etc. The Limited is a nice finish to a cadillac boat.

I am a simple kind of guy, the limited and team edition boats just add one more layer of things to go wrong. I like being able to trace wires and find problems with simple tools. I also buy a boat for it's ability to pull a skier/boarder. There is no way the skier/boarder is going to know the difference between skiing behind a SE, LE, or TE. I will add the other goodies that I want on my boat. My Tahoe is a LS model in similar fashion, that's just me, function over form. I really don't feel the upgrade cost is justifiable.

As we have discussed SNwanabe, I have the keyless ignition and find it to be more cumbersome. I have to punch in a code to turn on the boat and to turn it completely off. I believe there are some diagnostic advantages, but I have not had to utilize those options.

I think the real place where the keyless would be worth while is in a boat club or a group buy where multiple users are using the boat. One could establish multiple codes for use or a single code for the club, ect. No keys would need to be passed between users.

For me, it's just more keypad entries to get the boat going or shut down. I can say I have never dropped my keys in the water though - the ingition keys. Until they come up with a keyless gas cap, there will always be a nervousness when filling the tank on the water - and typically all of the keys are one ring - gas, trunk, trailer.

So if you get a Nautique, what will the new Screen Name be, SNDiga909? Joke - ha,ha!!

          snwanabe,
I have a 2005 206 LE. I can get you details if you want. Anyway, LE or SE depends on if you want/need a stereo. If you get a SE and add a stereo, you may as well get the LE package, and get all the other options it offers for little added cost.

I find the keyless ignition to be great actually, one of the best advantages of the boat. I know a lot of my friends find it too be useless, but, once you get the hang of it, it's really simple. There's no worrying about who had the key last, where is the key, is it safe to keep they key in the ignition overnight, etc... Turning off is not an issue, instead of typing in the code to completely shut down, you can just flip the battery switch off of the "all on" position. I know a lot will disagree with me but once you get used to this new style of starting your boat, I think it couldn't get any simpler...

Call me old fashioned, I like the key. This way you can temporarily let someone borrow/drive the boat. Once they know the code, you'd have to go through the hassle of changing it if you didn't want a particular person to be able to operate the boat.

I really like the keyless ignition. I always worried about dropping the key in the water (never did it though) with my '94. I did have to replace the keypad on my '03 once, but I haven't heard of too many other people who have had to do that. My next boat will have the keyless ignition too.

I had to have my keypad replaced on my '02, but I do love the keyless.

It is real easy to add a temporary code when you loan out the boat.

Most people don't even use the hard programed code, opting to program their own unique code that is easy for them to remember. Like mine, 11111.

I'm with Abundiga909 on this one.

I have an 05 196 limited and to be completely honest, I have NEVER entered the unlock code in the boat. It came from the dealer with the numeric sequence entered and I have never shut it off. I simply hit the "all off" switch when I leave the boat and turn it on when I use it. I have it written down in the manual and should really look at it so I know what it is but I can't imagine a time when I would use it.

No forgetting the key, no losing the key, and no chance of anyone banging it with their knee.

When you hit "all off" you lose stereo memory settings such as MBEX, Bass, Treble on the clarion unit. Not a huge deal but i prefer not to reprogram the stereo for 1 minute every time i get in the boat. If you leave the default/flat settings for those things i mentioned above, the stereo doesnt sounds as well.

Are you sure? Do you mean the head unit loses power? Because I can still eject CD's from the Clarion head unit when the switch is in the "all off" position...

I think you are supposed to leave it in the "all off" position when you're not using the boat. I know when you leave it in the water you're supposed to leave it in "all off except for auto-bilge."

Review the wiring diagram for the boat. You will find that the memory cable into the head unit bypasses the switch. Once you switch to the All Off position, the head unit should not lose memory power.

I really like the keyless ignition, but I miss being able to turn the key to the run position to see how much gas is in the tank when it's on the trailer. Does anyone know how to do this with the keyless ignition? Am I missing something?
