Hard Tank/Lead Question

I have recently ordered a 210 Team and have a questions about the rear ballast tanks. How much weight can you put on top of the tanks before you may damage them? Here is what I want to do. In stead of filling sacs in the back every time I get in the boat I want to put lead on top of the tanks. I am only looking at 100 to 150 lbs. of lead per side. My thoughts are the tanks will not be affected when they are full but I am concerned about the tanks with the 100lbs. on them when they are empty.

I would recommend putting the lead just in front of the rear tanks, on the floor. The tanks are pretty tough, but there is a good spot that is open right in front of the tanks. That's where I have some of mine. You might also check right beside the base for the rear seat. There is an open area there on each side that can hold a few bars.

The spots next to the rear seat frame work very well for me. I have some there, some under the passenger seat and next to the driver's seat, and some in the nose.

How much total weight in lead do you have?

I run different amounts at different times. I have about 1,500 pounds, but have never had it all in the boat. My crew usually consists of two people, so the extra weight just takes the place of the weight of a few people.

I doubt that CC will recommend any lead weight on top of the tanks, but I soothed my fears in that I regularly stand on my tanks while performing maintenance, to no harm. If one tank can easily support my 165lbs in my smallish footprint, then a smaller amount of lead spread over a larger area shouldn't be hurtful.

That being said, I prefer NOT to have solid weight on them and have switched to water weight since.

Actually if you look behind the tank towards the transom there is a big empty space which is unused for anything. I've been able to slip in some lead bricks back there. That along with some bars that are between the back seat and the side wall, I've added a few hundred pounds without loosing any space. I try to keep all that hidden because I don't like to use up any valuable space.
