do Wake surf behind your Direct Drive?

I've heard the newer wider beam DDs are very difficult to sink far enough for a good wakesurfing wake versus the more narrower boats of the mid 90s. Does anyone have a 00 or newer 206 and can tell me what you have to do to get what kind of wake out of it?

I'd like to buy a 03 or so 206 soon and want to know if it will put out a decent surf wake.

My fam's '04 216 is 1 foot longer than what you're looking at, and unless you plan on adding a lot of aftermarket ballast, don't get your hopes up for a nice surfing wake.

It's possible, but definately not w/ just the stock ballast.

My 2000 SAN puts out an OK surf wave with the stock ballast but you have to be pretty tuned into surfing to be able to stay in the slot for any period of time (meaning staying in the wave with no rope in your hand). If we add some people and 500 lbs to the side we are surfing on (drivers side is the best) you get a decent, thigh high wave - and lots of fun when its too rough to wakeboard/ski.

        Bikeman,
I surfed a lot on my 88 SN and it takes LOTS of ballast to get a decent wave. 1,000 to 1500 lbs(on the side you are surfing on) and 3 to 5 people. It takes some time to try different set-ups and move people around. Move people back in the boat the wave gets steeper, forward and it flatens out. Also the wider the hull the wider the V of the wave. Also Very important to lean the boat over to the side of the surfer, that cleans up the wave and takes off the foamy top.
I really don't think it's the hull that makes too much difference, it's more of how much ballast you dare to put in your boat, water displacement, speed, hull angle(list) and bow rise. I will try to post a pic of surf set up to the max

That is a great picture. LOL You know the only reason they brought the guy on the back was for this situation.
