I would hope that if something tragic happened to me, my ski buddies would realize that my boat is still sitting in the water and arrange to take it out! Looking at the pictures, his buddies found time to go out there and have fun with it at some point!

While I can see how it might happen I can't see how the situation is allowed to continue. If it was close I would go work on it and I don't even know the guy.2018 200 Team H6

So, my nieghbor at the lake has an aerator under his dock and it has currently kept at least a 60-80' stretch of water clear of ice. Is this thought only a possible solution for freeing the boat and keeping it from freezing around the haul or will it allow the owner to retreave the boat to shore. If so, how saving the engine if it's not too late? With a power source available, I would think a tarp and electric garage heater could help keep the engine and other components from continued freezing.
Who knows, this mistake may turn up a possible solution for boat winterization - like the wire that plugs into a car or truck!?! This guy may be on the break of brand new technology generating millions. It seems every great invention was developed due to a huge screw up. Some people call this opportunity.

Worts of all, the hull would not have to crack to sink it. If the water in the intake freezes, and cracks the pipe connections, you could have the boat sink as soon as it starts to thaw out. So for that reason, if he was to thaw the ice around the boat, he should still monitor the progress to be sure it does not sink without and obvious hull failures. The same can be said if the block is cracked, and below the water line.
If I was him, though, I would try to get it out now before any more damage is done. Either that or call insurance and see if they would cover salvaging it as is.

Not a Nautique But Still.......
Wow, where to begin. If he winterized properly the motor & transmission could be safe. The concern becomes thru hull fittings such as water intake and inline mufflers that could below waterline of boat. I've seen boats left in like this before and to that I say owners beware.
The big concern is the rising spring water with ice melting and wind, this creates a recipe for disaster. In 1994 I pulled several boats off of peoples docks that had been on their shore station most of the winter. The cause rapidly warming temps, with lots of rain and high winds. When wind starts pushing ice somewhere things will break, like underwater gear in this case
athough it's most likely bent already from his buddies playing in the boat.
I'm speculating there since I do not know if the ice was solid under the boat.
As for the hull, it should be OK unless ice hits it very hard in the thaw out period.
I write this to warn all the people that leave their boat on shore stations all winter of the consequences we as dealers see about every ten years on the cold weather lakes. I pulled six boats off docks on one shoreline at the lake in 1994. What's amazing is these people are back leaving their boats on the lifts again.

See tmcowners.com. Thread is called OOOOPS. There are about 200 posts. From what I've
read, I wouldn't call it stupidity - I'd call it a screw up.

If it was on the water, it was not winterized, unless he floated it out after he flushed. If that was a 196 I would cry. It has Minnesota plates on it, its toast.Life long Nautique guy
Will ski anytime.

Read an update on the tmcowners forum today. Cracked exhaust hoses. Water sitting in the boat. Some guys tried to bail it, but it just kept coming. Freeze plugs have popped. They (some locals) are going to try to pull it out pretty soon before it deep sixes and leaves a nice oil slick on their lake.1998 Ski Nautique (Red/Silver Cloud), GT-40, Perfect Pass Stargazer 8.0z (Zbox), Acme #422, Tunable Rudder.

Also, the person who will be among those pulling it, according to his posts on the MC forum, offered to pull it out before it froze, but the owner told him he had a couple of weeks.

Perhaps, we should start a collection now to fund the inevitable scrubbing of Minnesota water fowl with liquid detergent and otherwise underwrite the general environmental cleanup of the lake on which the Tige' Valdez is now locked in ice and soon to pollute the local watershed. Put down the bottle, Watersport Captain Hazelwood, the PN Board is coming for you and will soon be petitioning Congress for double hulls for all tow boats...
