How tight is the steering supposed to be?

I thought mine (81SN) was about normal, but after driving my uncle's 96SN mine seemed tight. With my uncle's I can drive it with 1 finger on the wheel. Like a car with p/s. With mine, I can do that, but it hurts! hehe.

I figure if something is wrong, the cable has just gotten stiff in its old age. It is the origional cable as far as I know.

It isn't uncomfortably tight when driving, but man, driving my uncle's with such little ease was nice!

Perhaps this goes in the maint. section? Sorry if I should have put it there.

it will be harder to turn than a newer one. you have a rotary system versus rack and pinion. you can try to grease the cable and/or grease the rudder and see if that helps.

        haha! No way!

It's in the shop now for upholstery work, at the end of the month it's going to TN to get a tower from New Dimension Towers. Then in the next year or 2 its getting new paint. Then in the next 3-4 yrs it's getting a rebuilt engine w/ lots of chrome! hehe.

Jeez, lots of work. I'd buy a newer SN.

We wanna keep it b/c it has got some good history to it, besides being the anniversary edition.
It was on the US ski circuit, then it has been in the family since.

And it throws an awesome wakeboard wake, and not a bad ski wake. hehe.

My only complaint with it is the space is limited. But after we get that tower put on it should open up a little.

Oh, and this picture in the link below isn't from my boat, but that's why I wanna keep the 81.

The old 2001 steering was the most effortless of any boat I have owned, maybe it was just a fluke? My 95s was always stiff even after replacing the cable, the 2005s is much better but still not quite as easy as the old 2001s.
