Waterski Mag 2006 Boat Buyers Guide

I just received my Jan/Feb 2006 Waterski Magazine and quickly scanned it. After flipping through the first 20 pages or so, every other add was for Malibu. I then got to the meat where they show all the boat tests. Malibu had 15 boats featured! Correct Craft had a whopping 6!?!?!? Whats up with that???? Last year they atleast included adds for both the air and sport version of each boat etc. I am a bit dissappointed. If Emeril was writing this he would say: CORRECT CRAFT; KICK IT UP A NOTCH!!!!!!!

You know, if you look at ANY type of boating mag, you will find BU ad's all over the place. You can also bet it's effective too. If it's in your face enough, you're gonna get curious. That's one of the reasons BU sells more IMHO. Regards!!

Is that the issue w/ the Red/Blk BU on the cover? I saw that issue on display at the boat show, but the one I just got in the mail has a blue Mobius on it. Don't forget, in '04, CC had their pretty-new Air 210 TE on the cover of that boat, in a blue/blk color scheme I've tended to grow on... ;-)

Can you say MONEY MONEY MONEEEEYYYYYY......It's all about the number of boats that the manufactures pay very handsomely to WSM to have tested......And I bet the seperate ads go with the deal!

15 test boats for BU 15 separate ads...6 test boats for CC....6 separate ads

In my opinion CC has been very lame in their marketing and magazine ads across the board for quite some time...

NO ZIP, NO ZING, NO SIZZLE...Same Ol..Same Ol.....I guess we could say "Another win for Malibu"
Lack of proper planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

Isn't CC selling out of boats every year? Why would they spend a large amount of money on advertising if they are already selling all of the boats that they can currently build?

Yes they have been to full capacity at this plant but they better ramp things up for the new plant if they are going to fill that. 4000+ boats is a tall order.............

              I agree about CC's ads.
They have had no consistency in appearance or content for years.

I have to say something I'm not sure if everyone noticed. BU merely bombarded the magazine with their bull**** ads. CC, however, on the other hand, strategically places their ads in the most effective areas. For example, I'm working off of last year's mag... the test page for the MC 190, on the adjacent page to that, was the CC ad for the 196, with the quote, "The Correct Choice is Twice as Obvious" and then showing the 2 J.D. Power awards. I saw that I was like, yessss.... and laughed out loud a bit...

Abun, I would agree that the placement was effective but it is unlikely that CC chose it. Typically the only placements you can choose are the front and back covers (extra cost) and adjacent to any special prearranged feature article that the mag may run about your product. Most mags reserve the right to place ads at their own discretion. Otherwise they would face an impossible task of satisfying every advertiser's wishes in every issue.

When someone is looking to spend that kind of money on a boat, I would hope that they would look into how the boats are made and what each one offers, not go and buy one just because they seen 15 ads instead of 6 in a magazine, if that is your influence then something is wrong!! If you are reading waterski or wakeboarding magazines then you are probably into this sport and pretty much know what each brand is all about! Just my 2 cents

What's the "TCM2" and "TCM3" hull Waterski Mag is talking about on the 196 review? At least that is what mine says...

The Boat Buyers Guide issue is always my favorite to read. CC has always been all over the board on what if any boats they provide or include. If I remember correctly there was a model year (98, 99 or 00) in which the CC line had not even one boat. Hopefully as SN said CC will "Ramp Things Up" in the future.

Correct! Somebody else must work in the publishing industry! The facing CC and MC ads were a fluke- a mistake made while laying out the book.

M3Fan - You're right, but I worked with (not in) the publishing industry to buy ad space for my company. If I drew a good placement I took credit for it and if I drew a bad placement I blamed it on the mag.

I was a little confused that the 210 only received a "Recreational Wakeboarding" classification rather than "Aggressive Wakeboarding".

Both MC and 'BU seemed to get higher rankings than CC (although I have not read the whole mag yet).

'BU has done a terrific job with their marketing. Except for the die hard CC (like us) or MC fans, I would be willing to bet that the 'BU is the first boat at which most wakeboard boat buyers will look. The graphics, design, and "party boat" type features really appeal to my age group (under 30 years old). Plus, the "base price" on the 'BU was about $10K - $12K less than MC or CC. I understand that you get what you pay for most of the time, but that is a lot of money to a 20 something.
