    CRANKSHAFT FOR 1999 PYHTON 8.1L ENGINE

    Looking to find a crankshaft for a 1999 Phyton 8.1L engine. Having trouble locating one. PCM do not carry them in stock. Has anyone any ideas where to get one?

    RE: CRANKSHAFT FOR 1999 PYHTON 8.1L ENGINE

    Neil, PCM converted two different engines and called them a "Python". Both are GM, One is a 501 cu/in displacement, the other is a 502 cu/in. Make sure you order a crank for the correct engine. Find someone in your town that is an expert in big block chevy motors. In hot rod slang, it is sometimes called a "RAT" motor.

      1999 -2001 were 8.2L 502.

      The 8.1L 496 atarted in 2002.

      Try a GM dealer as the engine is automotive rotation and they should be able to get the part.
      Lack of proper planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

        Neil,
        You should check out the hot rod resources. The 502 is a common engine these days, and you should be able to match up the dimensions by the following specs;

        main journal dia.
        rod journal dia.
        stroke

        You may also want to consider having the engine balanced while you have it apart. Most any decent machine shop can handle this operation.

        May I ask what caused the untimely death of the beast?

          Necc,
          Craig is that you? We are loving our 99 PAN/Python! We put over 65 hours on her last season, and are looking forward to more this year. I posted a pic of our Xmas card in the Show your nautique section.
          Nice "seeing" you around the board.
