    Carpet Cleaning

I have a 99 Sport and the carpet is getting pretty matted down and hard. It is clean just doesn't feel "plush" like a newer boat carpet would. Any suggestions on revitalizing my carpet?

    RE: Carpet Cleaning

no way to get the "fluff" back. You can powerwash the carpet to clean it but use light pressure and keep the wand moving at all times. Pull your drain plug out and don't directly spray the engine.

      RE: Carpet Cleaning

Easiest way I've found is to use the high pressure spray from a garden hose. Make sure you've pulled the bilge plug then soak the carpet real good. Use a shop vac to remove the water from the carpet. I've done this lots of times over the years and the carpet stays looking like new.

Thanks for the info, anyone out there ever replaced the carpet entirely?

Has anyone used a carpet cleaning machine? Does that remove the protectant that is on the carpet though??

There are a lot of Malibu owners over on MBO that have had good luck with Bissell steam cleaners. I believe many are using the Little Green that heats the water and is ~$100.

Supposedly, it will bring life back to matted carpet, at least for a while. I havent used one myself, but I would like to try one. Do a search over at MBO for Bissell.

wet it down with a water house---spray simple green or shampoo on dirty areas, scrub/agitate all the carpet with a stiff brush and then rinse it out with a presurewasher---suck excess water out with vac and the let it dry

this will fluff it up pretty good for a while

I've replaced a few carpets in my lifetime. Not an easy, nor pleasureable job. Requires lots of patients and little bit of know how.
You'd have to remove all interier parts.
Pull up old carpeting, remove all glue remaining.
Use old carpet as a template onto new carpet, cut oversized.
                Do a preliminary fitting.
Lay down lots of glue and start glueing and cutting as you go, the glue layup is probably the hardest part, glue, lay up carpet, glue etc.
Finally glue down the edging, cut your corners and get the carpeting down flat.

Take pride in a job well done and how nice new carpeting feels under your feet. Of course it'll look the same after one use.

I think you're going to find you're out of luck with any of the "fluffing up" techniques. I have a Bissell Little Green and it does a good job cleaning, but doesn't help my trodden down carpet. I've also resorted to using car wash wands for some major cleaning, but it didn't help to fluff up my carpet either.

There's a thread on WakesideRides with some information similar to what wakejunky posted. Replacement is obviously not a simple task and requires quite a bit of patience, but I doubt there's much else you can do that will get you closer to that new-boat appearance.

I might try one of those little greens, I don't have any problems yet with stains or matting, but just want to get the unseen dirt that comes off the road and from the factory before it gets too ground in!!

I use my Little Green Then I push the carpet against the grain with the brush That will usually fluff up most carpet. My boat has 1300 hrs on it and I can still get it to fluff with a still brush and alot of pushing against the grain. It can be tricky as the grain changes around the back of the engine. cover.
