I have mine with Voyager Marine. I have not had to make a claim, but their price and policy looks good without being the most or least expensive.

I used Ski Safe for about 6 years, but recently switched to Progressive because they are 20% less than Ski Safe for my 1997 Ski Nautique in Calif. The coverage from Progressive is also better than Ski Safe (higher coverage values with less deductible). Glad I switched given the headaches posted about Ski Safe...

Personally, I've found that I need to shop my entire insurance package to find my best rates.

I use USAA. The boat part of the insurance is expensive, I could do better with other firms.
However, taken in the total package, House, cars, personal articles floater, boat and an
umbrella coverage over all of it, USAA was far and away cheaper than anyone else I found.
Plus they give back a pretty good rebate every year. One of USAAs requirements is that
it ensure all of your assets if it is to provide an umbrella. Something to think about if you
a sophisticated or higher dollar insurance package.

USAA Is great from what I've heard but you have to have a relative in the armed forces or you have to be a an officer to be able to be with them?

Yes, USAA is for military and former military, but it's a little loose. My ex-wifes father was
military, so we got in, and even after our divorce, they maintained my coverage. However,
I would think that for anyone who has a more complicated insurance coverage scenario, it's
worth shopping the package, vs. shopping individual components, and taking the less expensive
                  option.

I've used Western Marine for close to 10 years. That said, this year they made a change, a "Progressive" policy is what they sent me, in the past i believe it was "AquaPac". Maybe it was because of a nasty claim 1.5 years ago. My sand car (Farmers) is about half the cost of my boat premium. I shop rates about every other year and offer homeowners, rentals, cars, motorcycle...everything to any company with the best price. I used to be loyal to companies and would be willing to pay a tad more to stay with a company i "trusted". One day I came to the realization i was just another number, so now the numbers are whats important to me. Obviously the coverage must be like for like.

Mine is with Allstate - $365/yr, value set to $22.5k on the boat. There were signicantly below everyone else when I was researching. But I also have my car with Allstate.

We have the whole "kit and cubudle" with state farm and we have been with them so long we have qualified for the "no rate increase for claims" . I hope we never have to test that policy out but you wonder and I know a lot of people who wont submit a claim because their affraid their rates will increase. Ins companies run this country, sad.

                              Westmar Insurance vs State Farm

I have State Farm for my 92' nautique and it's $452.00 for the year.. insured at $12K with the trailer.. WestMar (aquapac) gave me $16K with trailer... plus higher coverage, etc. But State Farm says that will keep me at $452.00 and if my boat gets totaled, they will replace the $12k no matter what.. WestMar said they will replace the cash value of the boat.. so if it's insured for $15k... (today it's worth with tower, etc) and 2 years down the road.. it gets totalled.... yuk...... they will only give me the value of the boat less depreciation...

WestMar wants $389 for the year.. is it worth the change????

                              any tips??

                              thanks!
