93 SN Advice

Is there anything I should check before buying a 93 SN. I can not find a thread about common problems or items to check. There is not a lake close buy but I am going to run it on a hose.

I would require a lake test!!!!! Ensure that the motor is cold when you take it to the lake. This will help check the vacuum choke/idle. Once warmed up, check to make sure its running good under power. If you were to test it on the trailer you could not tell how the engine performed under a load. Testing under a load will also test that the vacuum secondaries are kicking in too! Check for slop in the steering. Check the plugs once your done testing the boat. Plug checks are a great way to see whats happening inside the motor. CHECK EVERY ONE OF THEM! If the plug is is anything but sandy brown you have issues. Oil on the plug means rings, black means no enough spark or too rich, white is too lean, gas smell is no spark. Check the prop shaft, check the oil to make sure there is not head leak. Smell tranny fluid to ensure its not a burnt smell. Check packing after its been run a bit. check floorboard to make sure they aren't spongy (some nautiques had this happen with the composites). Hopefully everything checks out ok. These items are what I ALWAYS check for on a used boat.

93 is a very good year, one of my favorites. Should not have signs of oil in the bilge, underside of exhaust manifolds should have even paint burning, should not steer hard.
