rear lifting ring question

the rear lifting rings or eyes on my SAN are cover by a plastic cover---why is this? i have owned lots of boats and never seen them covered---

i know that there is no need to put a strap to hold the rear of the boat on the trailer, but i have a ramlin with only 2 bunks and my bouncy texas roads let the boat shift up against the right guide rail

im assuming the cover are to give the rear of the boat a clean look, but you cant see them since they are under the ski deck

They are covered to keep exhaust from coming up through the platform and getting to the passengers. It is a safety issue. I would recommend one big strap around the whole back of the boat if you really want to have one.

I'm not recommending this, but I took a dremel tool and cut holes in mine so that I can strap the boat to the trailer in the back. It has worked very well, and doesn't look bad at all if you can make straight cuts. Of course, this makes the covers pretty much useless as exhaust blockers. That's why I am not necessarily recommending it.

hmmm----exhaust blockers, u mean i won't get high strapping in like like i did on my MC and BU!!!

Why don't you just strap to the swim platform brackets? That's what the CC dealers around here do. Keep in mind you really just holding the trailer against the boat not supporting the weight of the boat.

heres what i did. i took the covers off, put the screws back in with some silicone because the holes go all the way through, then i cut lexan pieces to fill the reliefs in the swim platform. the bottom of the platform was sanded smooth and flat, and then i epoxyed (sp?) the 5/16 lexan pieces in place. they do not hit the extra lip that extends from the boat. this way i get to use the d rings, and not have a carb/monox problem.

your right, i can't lift the rear by the rings, but i never do, its on the trailer or in the water. if i had to for maintenance work on the boat or the trailer, i would just take the platform off.
