So I am close to pulling the trigger on a G23 Coastal. I live on a freshwater lake in FL, however we find ourselves wanting to get out on the saltwater on occasion too. I was hoping some PN members or guests could chime in with what to look out for when purchasing a used Coastal edition boat since I currently run a 2006 SV211 and do not have a great deal of experience with saltwater boats.
The boat in question is a 2014 G23 with the 450. It has about 80 hours all saltwater use.
I noticed the following when I test drove the boat:
Bubbling on the bottom of the 4 horn drivers
Bubbling on the feet of the tower just above where it attaches to the hull
Rust stains on the hull where the NSS slides in and out
All of these things were very minor in appearance and would not be noticed by the casual observer, however for that kind of jack I want it to be perfect when I get it. Also, if it looks like that now, what will it look like in 5 years if I decide to sell it? Granted I will have it living on fresh water but it will see some salt use.
Other than that the boats immaculate from what I could see. I spoke with the previous owner who traded it in at the dealership on a fishing boat. He said it was kept at a high end high and dry and always covered even though it was stored inside on a rack. It was one of those full service marinas that washes and flushes after every use etc.
I realize that you are gonna get corrosion with saltwater. It is inevitable, but what else should I be checking?
Since the boat is under warranty, what should I expect from the dealer?
Thanks!
