02 super air rear bench seat question

Just out of curiosity Iv noticed a difference in the rear bench seat on 02 super airs. Mine for instance has three separate seats that can each flip up independent of one another and Iv noticed on others the back rest for all three seats is one unit and it looks like just the port side seat bottom hinges independent and the center and starboard seat bottoms hinge as one unit. Anyone know why this is? Which one would be the newer style if a change was made in production during that model year?

The three piece back seat was only early run 2002 boats. Later on in 02-06 was the one piece seat that didn't hinge at all. Apparently the three piece was a production nightmare or something which is unfortunate as it seems to be a better design.

I believe they switched because as XL stated the 3 piece seats were little difficult because each section was small. Made for uncomfortable lounging I recall. Keeping it one piece eliminated that
