    RE: BU or MC: Why?

I used to like the look of mc's, however the late models (last 3 years or so) look very W.T., especially the wakeboard editions/models

I really can't base my opinion on performance or quality, as I have never owned either a bu or mc.

MC is a better boat. Go drive a 5 year old version of any boat you are considering. Compare how they feel after time. A 5 year old CC or MC feels as good as a new one. 5 year old Bu, doesn't.

Although my response in the poll was a little tongue in cheek, my answer is simple---I'm a MC owner. When I bought my boat, I was limited by price to boats from the early 90s. I looked at a 91 SN, but it looked like it had been ridden hard and put away wet to borrow an expression. Not an issue of how it was built, but rather, how it was treated.

My local dealer is a CC dealer. So I pay them a visit and my choices are 99 SN with all the bells and whisltes for $5K more than what I wanted to spend, or an 85 SN that needed a lot of work.

So I find this great little MC PS 205 about 200 miles away. It's in great shape and, it being February, I swing a good deal on it.

Sure, after putting perfect pass, a bimini top, and other stuff in it, I was close to the price on the 99 SN, but that's there are just some things you learn the hard way. I love my boat and have no complaints with its quality. According to NADA, I could still get more than I paid for it. The wakes are great for skiing and with my edelbrock intake and GT40 heads, it takes off like a shot.

I've skied behind all late models of the big 3 (although not the TSC3 yet). They all ski well and some things just come down to preference. While MC, SN, and Bu like to beat up on each other about build quality, etc., to a certain extent, we're all just picking gnat sh_t out of pepper. If and when I ever buy another boat, I'll take a good look at CC, MC, and Bu.

That my local dealer (my only local dealer) is a CC dealer will, of course, play into my decision. Until then, I'm very happy they're willing to make money working on my MC.

Simple, the BU appears a lot more clasical than the flashy MC. I go for a classic look, hence the reason I have a CC, but a freind has a BU that is about 4-5 years old, and I have to say it is wearing very well. But then again, he takes very good care of it just like I do mine.

I also think the BU of today is not the same as the BU of 5+ years ago.

I agree with that too. I would not have looked at Bu before 2001. I had a '94 MC before I had my Bu and untill 2002 I didn't like the bu and would have put my "old" boat against any newer Bu. Since 2002 they have really turned out a great 3 event boat( that's all I can comment on ).

Better Wake = Better Boat. Hope that doesn't change the results...

What I find interesting is that most believe that BU is a better value than MC. The connotation is that these people may have chosen MC if price was not a factor. But when given a choice of BU and CC, they spend the extra bucks for the CC. Why? Please don't argue the resale value of CC over BU, because the resale value of MC is probably the same as CC.

Bu over MC for two reasons. a. The Response is a bit bigger than the 197 and has a softer, smaller wake. The 197 is my least favorite in terms of wake size. b. Not very fond of the MC dealer in these parts.

                    MC over BU. 2 reasons.
Proven quailty over the years and the BU dealer here sells more boats then he can service.

I have also tied my practice PB behind the 197.

I chose Bu over CC and MC and still would today. In 3 event boats, Bu has the performance, fun factor, ride and handling over CC and MC. That said, from the rope end of things I don't care whether I get the CC or bu in a tournament.

The interior seating of the Bu is much more comfortable. We spend hours on the lake at a time. The bow seating on the CC is no where near as comfortable. (angle of backrest, width of seat when filler cushion not in) Angle of backrest on observers seat--Heck the whole observers seat shape in general in the 216, Rear seat (no storage under)- curved of the backrest does not allow for forward facing riding (have to sit towards engine box to be comfortable) and the back rest is too low.

This all being said-- I have loved my current Nautique for 12 years. Extremely reliable. Never a down day. If we had room to keep both I would--Still might somehow.

Also the local dealer was a bad mouther of other dealers--A real drag on the CC name.
