    Boat Dock Solar Screens

I am thinking of building some solar screens for the dock and would welcome anyone's advice on the best contraption to use...eg curtain style that get tied back when on in use, role up, pull up somehow...ect. I really would like to order the material and install myself to save some $$. Here are some pics of what I am talking about...your help is appreciated.-John

Here is my dock with the boat on the lift...

I did something similar for my movable lift. Works really well. Nothing fancy you have to bend over to get under. I just took the 20 x 8 foot mesh tarp and cut it to 4 x 20. It keeps rain out to some extent too.

So I got 2 of the 20 x 8. so cut in half is 4 pieces. So you can see by vid that there is a couple places where i overlapped it. In the back what i did is i put an opening at one corner. so i just use bungees, and just unbungee pull up along one side and pull the boat out. a little putsy. but when i boat the boat i thought i would be able to put tower up and down every time... uh. not so much...not even close to possible with this tower.

Thank you for the info Scott. I will most likely be ordering some material from Tarpsplus.com. I am looking to rig some sort of a pullie system to role the mesh tarp up sort of like blinds. Just haven't engineered a solution yet. Should be fun driving around to other docs looking at their set ups.

Wow. That looks great. Wonder what the price is? Another thing I would mention is that over the course of the season your screening - regardless of type - get's dirty from catching dust and rain, and cotton wood tree fuzz and stuff, even sometimes bird poop.

So what is nice is that since mine is just hung by the grommet holes it comes with and short lengths of rope double tied, and you can easily add more grommets if you want, i did. Anyways what is nice is I just pop it in the washer for a short cycle and it comes out like new!
