My 02 SAN is sitting in the driveway and only protected by a typical fabric cover. Conditions are wet and soon to be hovering around 32 dregrees over night. I'm still using the boat off and on.

Should I worry about this weather?

I wouldn't be. Those coldest nights if it hits 28*, it would only be for a hour or two and then quickly back above freezing. If its in the driveway, throw a trouble light in the engine compartment and you will be more than covered.

Do you have a heater? That would be the only thing I would worry about at all, but even that I think you will be OK.

I agree with azeus that you're probably OK, but if you're located in the country the temps can get a lot lower that the forecasted number.

negative on the heater. Is the attached pic the kind of trouble light you're talking about? safe?

The boat does have a button on the dash for a heater... but, I'm guessing that was a factory option that was or wasn't installed and I'm not even sure what it would do.

You are just a little north of me in GA . If your weather men are anything like mine I would take precautions to prevent freezing. Draining would be best the light will work unless it gets unplugged or burns out. Make sure you use care to not get too close to anything that can be burned . You are taking a chance with a big dollar repair . I guess you just have to ask yourself '' Do you feel lucky?''

Might be able to get my hands on an Xtreme Heater tomorrow...but hesitant to drop 400 bucks. Would the heater provide a huge difference in the overall goal of protecting the engine in comparison to hanging a light in there?

An incabdescent bulb will work well unless you have a power outage. But, it only takes 15 minutes to drain the raw water sytem. Worth the piece of mind.

Make sure you turn your ballast pumps on to suck in or push out air so that no water is in pumps or the lines. These will freeze before the motor.

Lastly, if you have a heater (sounds like you do not) you def want to drain it. Heater cores are often the first part to freeze.

Went with the Caframo 400w heater at WestMarine. Got it for about $200. Took a few minutes to install and the removal bracket is awesome. Here are some pics.
