General thoughts on Surf Pipe

So, what is used to make the single exhaust exit? Never thought about removing the muffler if I added a surf pipe

Yeah I was surprised when behind our 15 on the first sharp turn that pulled the pipe out of the water. Much louder than I was expecting.

You do not need to remove the muffler for the aftermarket version from FAE.

That's intereting they don't use a muffler from the factory on surf pipe boats. Any idea on the reasoning?

I'm guessing for the same reasons that stern drives don't have mufflers. The water is your muffler.

You can install the factory Surf Pipe on a boat with a muffler too. Then it is super quiet.

It is actually quieter without the muffler. Mufflers will quiet the motor yet with a surf pipe on you hear the resonance of the motor so by taking the muffler off all of the noise goes straight into the water with no resonation. So it will be quieter off I thought about Taking my muffler off yet just have not taken the time.

The bottom of the surf pipe is higher than the propeller and rudder. So If you hit the surf pipe with some debris, you are in much bigger trouble, and the surf pipe would be the last of your worries.
