    2013 g changing gear ratio

Has anyone changed the gears on the 2013 g23 to the 2:1 like the 2014 I have heard it is way more efficient and would love to do it I could do the work myself.

I had it quoted and the quick estimate I got was $5k installed with the propeller being about $1k of that.
2013 G23 450 with NSS (175hrs) and still have the original prop
    2010 SANTE 230 343 (280hrs)
pre 2010 - various open bow boats and jet skis

Was that a new trans or gear change I sure I can change the gears yet I understand the shaft is larger as well yet I wonder if I could keep the same one.

I also have a 2013 G23 with a 450. I re-propped it last fall to a 2419. Probably won't be anymore efficient but I think the hole shot is supposed to be better. I Iike the idea of switching the gear ratio to 2:1.

My concern is with full ballast and boat full of people and it does not want to get up and I would prefer it to be more efficient.

I'm not sure how they were going to do it, but I'll find out. I had a new 2014 at the dealer ready to make the swap but my 2013 didn't sell and I could not do the swap without it selling it first. I could handle the one year model upgrade price difference but cannot swing the two year upgrade to a 2015. So now I'm in the position of trying to upgrade my 2013. I'm not sure I could handle doing it myself, so I'm having to use the dealer. My biggest worry on the self install would be changing the shaft and keeping it aligned. A big part of the upgrade is the bigger prop which requires the bigger shaft.

Certainly the 2:1 with larger prop improves hole shot when heavily ballasted. But does anyone have rpm data at speed or GPH data? I suspect that fuel efficiency goes down unless the larger prop transfer energy much better than the smaller prop.

It'd be interesting to see real world data. My guess is your efficiency while wakeboarding will go up because you spend less time climbing out of the hole--which is where you suck a lot of gas. For cruising, my guess is you lose a little mileage.

Absolutely not. Your boat is 18secs 0-23 with full ballast. Put a 2315 on there is 13secs 0-23mph full ballast.

                    Roughly 9-10secs for A 450 2:1 on 17" prop 0-23 with full ballast. 550 is 7-8secs.

The dealer who wanted to sell me a new boat is a user as well and gets a new boat each year. He said his fuel bill went down by about 40% with the new tranny/prop combo. Using the boat in the same way as before. Of course, that is coming from a guy asking me to spend 6 figures on his product, but I currently believe him to be an honest guy.

Looks like NYRyan has found a huge benefit in hole shot, I would expect fuel economy as well.
