    Fish Nautique steering cable

Hello, I am trying to identify the correct steering cable for my 1981 Fish Nautique. It currently has a standard 8.5" throw 13 ft Teleflex cable isntalled. By the enormous turning radius at idle, it appears to need the 10.5in throw steering cable that many Nautiques use. The problem is I can only seem to find this cable at the 17.5ft length. I have not been able to figure out how to deal with the extra length of the cable. Does anyone here know if the 17.5ft cable can be made to work in a Fish Nautique? Or does anyone know where to get the correct original steering cable? I have been working with Natuiqueparts.com and they are struggling to find the correct cable. They are suggesting the 17.5 ft cable but I would really like to talk to hear from someone who made it fit.

    Thanks

Thinking out loud. The cable is attached to the helm with a gear in the helm and a box on the cable. Helm gear tooth size should match cable tooth size. It seems the only way to control throw is via tooth size at the helm. Can you measure the tooth center to center distance just take off the 4 bokts and measure

The arm length off the rudder to cable could also effect rudder rate of movement but I think your just looking at a cable by the original post.

Hello, this is a rotary style helm and the throw is determined by the cable itself. Standard is 8.5" however Correct Craft used a special 10.5" throw. I am trying to find out if the 17.5ft cable with the 10.5in throw can actually fin in my boat. It's several feet longer than the one that was put in there by the previous owner.

        Thanks

Sorry, don't have an answer but have you posted this question on CCFan?? There are some Fish Nautique owners over there.

          Good Luck

Unfortunately, new user registration at CCFan has been broken for the past several months so I have not been able to post any questions there.

I am going to go with it is impossible to get a cable of that style with the extended throw. Correct Craft did that and to my knowledge they are the only manufacturer in the world that still can order the longer throw on a teleflex cable. It is possible we could try to retrofit it to a different style helm/cable with a longer throw to regain some of your handling.
